Hey guys, a little help here. I was driving home from work and noticed my oil pressur gauge was pegged all the way at 80 and did't budge all the way home. I thought it was broken and stuck but it goes to 0 when I turn the truck off.....it seems to be running fine.

Thoughts?

I'm leaning toward pressure sending unit since the gauge moves when I turn the truck off......

easy way to check the motor is to pull the cluster out and manually rotate it back and forth it should move fairly easily and kinda have little clicks as you rotate it a bad motor will have no clicks and just freely rotate which could cause it to peg out like you are saying then go to zero. this happened in a malibu or montecarlo last summer that me and my dad were working on cant remember which car but i do know the cluster was very similar to our trucks. it doesnt take long to take the cluster out and check that first.

Gotcha' will do........ I reckon' if the oil pressure was actually 80+ something would be acting up..... so it must be the sender unit or a bad cluster motor

if you've ne'er done them, just replace all the motors.

When my gage stepper motors were bad they all went down to zero. I first sign of trouble was the oil gauge and it read about 80 too. Within a week the gauge would point all over the place... it even pointed at the little picture of the oil can. Like Eagle said, replaced all the stepper motors while you're in there. The guy on ebay lowered his price for a set of 6. Check them out here... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/6-20...ptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

With the soldering iron and other equipment I have at work it was a piece of cake. If you're worried about doing it I'm willing to fix it for you for nothing, just send me the parts and pay for shipping both ways.

Wow, that's mad cool of you to offer and I would take you up on it but it's my only vehicle and I can't roll around w/o my cluster in for the week or so it would take to send it and get it back. I'll give it a shot in a week or so once I get my new garage organized and my tools unpacked. Thnx y'all
