@sunlitcomet. i had perfect compression in every cylinder and no vacuum leaks and absolutely no fluids crossed. thats what had me and 3 diff. shops stumped for 6 months. But once I took the heads to the machine shop and they mic'd it all out, they were warped in multiple places around the head.

Dang, guess I'm gonna try swapping out the ECM if I can get it for less than $50 hopefully that will fix it, if not I guess I'm getting the heads mic'd...
Can anyone confirm whether or not the ECM has to be from a 4x4 like mine or can it just be from a 97 or 98 5.7?

Well, the only one I could find at the junk yard was from a 2 wheel drive. Can anyone confirm whether or not the ECM has to be from a 4x4 like mine or can it just be from a 97 or 98 5.7?

I am not a 100% but I do know that the VCM has an input to indicate when 4x4 is engaged. If you can't match up the part number I would not attempt it.

Has your mech been able to correct the p1345 code and has he verified there are no others?

Thanks! He hasn't been able to correct the p1345, he mentioned another code that could indicate internal engine damage but didn't give the number.
I couldn't find an ECM out of a 4x4 so I was kicking around the idea of ordering one from Black Bear or asking if they could diagnose mine and if so for how much.

See if you can squeeze that other number from him.
Oooookay, so it looks like there were several codes here they are:
16229684
16213195
86BNHP947148AP8
GA225300
100913

I don't even see a P1345 in there...
:bawl:Am I ever gonna get my truck running right again?:bawl:

The third and final mechanic finally fixed it, my heads were slightly warped so i said screw it and had him built up my topend while it was apart.
Hey strungout2000, do remember approximately how much it cost you to have that done?

Hey man i had this same problem with my truck thought the plugs were bad and changed those then the light came back on a month later and i had a misfire in cylinder six like you. I come to find out in that short period of time i cracked a few cylinder heads and gaskets and i ended up having to buy a remanufactured engine for about $1700. I would just let a professional look at it before you end up screwing your engine like i did

Those numbers make no sense in fact I even googled each one and the only hit was for this post here(that was quick).

I just about run out of ideas accept of course if you do suspect block damage perhaps a leakdown test might help find any internal leaks before your mechanic decides to start a tear down. My left bank has oil on the part of the head gasket sticking out near my misfiring cyls. So it is definetly getting replaced along with the injectors. I am going to let a shop do it and put all the burden on them. But at least I get a newly sealed intake system, new coolant and oil. Then it time for some minor repairs and then upgrades
