So I decided to give the vehicle a tune-up; oil and filter, new plugs, wires, air filter, fuel filter, cap, rotor, PVC, and serp belt.

All went well up to replacing the cap.
Can't get the cap to tighten down to the distributor.
Looks like I may have broken the rear mounting tab on the dizzy, NOT on the cap.

Am I F%$$#@ or is there a fix I can't see right now because I'm so pissed off.
Recommendations??
Thanks,
Tbruz

Thought so...............damn!

Is the whole dizzy I need or is there some subassy??
Cost??

BTW looking at the tab that broke off it has evidence of being previously glued.
tried re-glueing but all I did was glue the broke part to my fingers
Make me feel slightly better that I didn't break it myself.
Thanks
Tony

unknown at this time.
Whole assy sorry. About $110-150 depending if you go online or local.new or rebuilt. People just abuse them. Msd Has one that is aluminum with cap/rotors for vortec 350 but may cost $220 #5592 I think.

If you keep your old one it can be turned into oil pricing tool.

For a temp fix you could always put a zip tie around the shaft, then put two more long zip ties from that to the posts on the cap till you get around to getting a new distributor.

Redneck fix in place!

I got a #8-32 x 1" bolt, with an oversized #8 washer and a square nut through the back dizzy cap tab. The bolt came through the bottom of the plate and the washer/nut captures enough of the distributor plate that I got the bolt/cap tightened.
Car starts and runs smooth, now I can figure out the best solution for a replacement distributor.

Thanks
Tony

I got a new one online for $50 with the cap, rotor and sensor, All aluminum. People will say they are cheap Chinese knock offs, but imo everything these days are made there and just re-branded. So far, I like it.

No way to get pics, its the rearmost screw holding the cap to the distributor.
There's barely any room if you're just changing out the cap.
Had to do it all by feel while I was stretched across the top of the engine.
