Hello there

I have a 2004 Tahoe with remote door locks. I noticed a while ago that the remote for locking and unlocking the doors wasn't working really good after years of perfect service. After a while it just stopped working. I changed the battery of the remote, that didn't do anything. I I though the remote was dead, so I grabbed a new remote with the proper code. And it still doesn't work.
When I do the association process for the new remote, I follow these steps:

1. Close all the vehicle doors.
2. Insert the ignition key into the ignition lock cylinder.
3. Press and hold the door unlock switch.
4. While holding the door lock switch in the unlock position, cycle the ignition ON, OFF, ON, OFF.
5. Release the door unlock switch. The doors will lock and unlock to confirm the program mode.
6. Press and hold the LOCK button and the UNLOCK button simultaneously on one transmitter. After a delay of approximately 15 seconds, the doors will lock and unlock to confirm the programming of that transmitter.

On step 5 the doors lock and unlock and the horn honks. Then after a few seconds the doors lock and unlock again and the horn honks again.

However the remote still doesn't work. I noticed that the lock/unlock cycle happens even I am not pressing the buttons on the transmitter.

The power locks work when I use the proper button on the inside of the door and I can unlock the driver side door when using the key in the keyhole. But I can't get the remotes to opérate.

Any ideas what the problem could be ?

One more step.... After the lock/unlock sequence happens when holding both buttons on the remote, turn the key on then off again to exit programming mode.

If it Still will not program the new remote

I went on Amazon and read the reviews for these non-OEM Transmitters and 20% of the folks were returning them and complaining about the seller. The other 80% had no problem programming the remotes and were happy. I found this odd and thought maybe it is the users issue. I ordered a new set and they would not program to my car as the 20% stated. I didn't send them back and complain. Rather, I remembered something I use to do with another car to reset the computer. Here is what I did on my 2003 Tahoe. And it must be done in this order or you will have a problem..

1) Disconnect the battery -both the negative (first) and the positive (second)
2) Tie these positive and negative leads together with some locking pliers. remember that the battery is completely disconnected. Avoid touching the negative or positive terminals. The battery must be completely disconnected. No power to the vehicle. This may sound redundant but some folks need it.
3) Turn the ignition all the way to position #2
4) Wait about 10 minutes then remove the key from the ignition FIRST! . I repeat remove the key from the ignition first!!!!!, then step 5 and 6.
5) Connect the positive lead
6) Connect the negative lead

My remotes programmed as normal... Perform the procedure at your own risk otherwise ignore this post and don't do it! If you are mechanically challenged, take your vehicle into a authorized shop.

Only if you cant get the remote programmed. My aftermarket remotes would not program nor with my OEM remotes until I did the procedure above...

Good luck.

ThierryC78 did you ever find a fix, I just picked up a 03 yukon xl and replaced to batts in both fobs and at step 5 after a few seconds the doors lock and unlock again and the horn honks again. I assume this is taking it out of the program mode.

The issue I had with mine was a bad PDM. I replaced it and was able to program the fobs.
