So I finally broke down and got an aftermarket head unit so I could use my XM again (Cassette player crapped out). I bought a JVC KD-X40 from Crutchfield and I really like it so far, sound quality is 150x's better than it was before. I installed it no problems but now I've decided I want to hook up my amp and subs that I've had put away for a while in my 97 Yukon and I need some help. I understand how it needs to be hooked up (for the most part) but where is the best place to put the ground for the amp in the back? And where is the best place to run the wires through the firewall? I ordered a Rockford Fosgate 4gauge amp kit from amazon and it should be here by Friday so any help would be much appreciated.

It all depends where your going to mount the amp, if your going to mount it under the rear seats, i would say the best groud would be to drill a hole so you can ground the amp to the frame.
As for running the power wire you can drill a hole in the firewall and run the wire through there, or run it under the truck and make it come into the cab next to the ground wire.
Sorry if i dont make scense but i think i could find some picture explaining what i mean

I would like to have the amp under the seat. Could I use one of the rear seat bolts as a ground?

You could but you would have to sand a bit of the area around it to get a good ground.

You dont have to drill into the cab if you look under the truck, around where the rear seat is at on the pass side, theres these little caps that you can pop off and run the wires through there
The carpet covers the holes so it looks clean, and you wont have any cables being seen.

I found the hole you were talking about. I ended up running the power wire from the battery along the frame and then through that, I also ran the ground through there too. I got it all hooked up and working now. Thanks for you help.

Well now I have a problem. For some reason the speakers are getting very distorted at a not so high volume and they eventually cut out and the HU says check wiring and reset. Before I go through checking everything again is there something common that could cause this? What's weird is it was working fine all night until about an hour ago.

Check the ground for the head unit, add another ground to it because somtimes the ground in the wireing harness isnt so good.
And what type of deck is that it tells you to check your wiring lol ive never seen that

I've never seen it before either lol, but the problem seems to be gone now. I checked all the wiring and couldn't find anything wrong. I'm thinking maybe it was a setting being wrong on the HU or the amp.
