Im new here since I just bought an 06 Yukon
I've been looking around before I posted this but cannot seem to find an answer. My problem is the usual check 4wd message.
It worked when I test drove the truck and I've only had it a week. Now it Don't. When I first turn in the key. All the light on the selector switch light up. When I push any button nothing happens. Now light no motor sound nothing. Im assuming its the motor but before i start replacing parts. I would like to know if the motor is the reason i have nothing when I try putting it in 4wd. I've cleaned. The grounds on the frame and that wasn't it. Any info would be appreciated. I have other message issues as well that I will address later. Service air bag, Stability system disabled, service tire pressure monitor. But one thing at at a time.
I live in kansas so the 4wd is a must.

Thank you in advance

Welcome to TYF from your neighbor in Colorado!

If you're going to diagnose it, then first of all get the code that is triggering the Service 4WD message. You'll need an advanced scanner to see the chassis codes. A good scanner will also show you what mode (AUTO, 2hi, 4hi, etc.) is COMMANDED vs. what the encoder motor thinks the mode is. If those don't match that's a problem.

Read the short thread below, and there are others if you use the search tool and try "encoder" or something like that.

Welcome from Florida!

If you have an ODBII adapter and an IPhone, you MIGHT be able to see those codes with the CarScanner app in the apple store or whatever they call it. My kids can see all the codes on their generation truck that way.

Can you recommend a low cost scanner that serves this purpose. I only have a basic obd11

Sorry, I don't have any recommendations other than the GM Tech 2 will do it; I have an Autel that will do it, but I'm not familiar enough with the functionality of other scanners. Maybe other members would be able to recommend a particular tool.
