I got halo/projector lights off ebay that said you could use hids in them. Well i put hids in them, and they work, but they do not light up the road at all. Any suggestions?

+1. You need 55w. I learned that the hard way. I had 5000K 35w ballasts and have H3 bulbs they are not bright enough either. Upgraded to 55w ballasts and makes big difference.

I learned that because my original bulbs were 55w PIAA they were halogens but not bad. but since the housings came with those I was not sure. Did not melt anything yet. Not sure what bulb type you have for the projector but either swap out housings for clear euro reflector style or get 55w ballasts.

Even though some projectors come with hid's, it doesn't mean the projectors are made for hid's. Most aftermarket projectors are not made for hid's. One important question: what color (kelvins) are your hid's. 4300k to 4500k will give you the most usable light. As you go higher 6000k-8000k you get less usable light and so on.

5k is about as close to direct sun light as you can get, Use this chart as a guideline.

are you sure is the HID kit and not the projectors themselves? aftermarket headlights are always made with cheap projectors thus giving you a not so good light output.

The projector housing and lens is probably not made for hid causing bad output.
