Anyone replace their line? Mine has been showing signs of wanting help. I have a repair manual but did anyone run into issues?

Is it pretty "decent" repair?

I see hoses are only $15-20 or so.

When looking for hoses on rockauto the description states for a 1-piece or 2-piece gearbox and 2 diff designs of the box.

How can I tell which gearbox I have?

And the return hoses are ridiculous priced so that its better just to get the entire cooler asm so dont have to mess with fittings and stuff. Or am I missing something....????

So here we are again with someone wanting help and not supplying any vehicle info. See below. We would need the RPO code for the steering gear box options. Hell, I don't even have your vehicle year so I can at least try to look up hoses and RPO codes. C'mon man!

We recommend that you put all your rig(s) info in your signature so we all don’t have to guess at year, make, model, engine size, trans, rear axle locker…….etc. While you may have posted pertinent info in your first post, you may forget to do it again and the info is needed by us anyway. Makes it way easier on all members that attempt to help, to have that info right up front. It is also recommended that you take a pic of your RPO codes, on the inside cover of the glove box, and post that image in your signature. All this info will greatly help those that will try to help with a problem.

If there is any other info, like upgrades, mods or recent mechanical/maintenance work done, that would be helpful in any post as well. Too many times a question is asked by the poster and after about 10 responses we find out that the poster has done recent work to attempt to fix the problem or work that was done that SEEMS not related to the problem.

Thanks for the reply.

I didnt intend to cause frustration. I did, however, look for a spot to include vehicle info in my account area and nothing was readily seen for that so a few days ago I aborted that mission.

If the rpo is needed I can investigate that and either post back or find a lookup.

In any event, my need for a hose did not expect such time investment and figured it was something rather specific that would identify the diff gear boxes. Thus, my post.

Correct and still no year and engine size given. I can try to search on google for the RPO code needed but I need the basic info first. If you want help, supply the info.

Plus, my recommendation says to put all the info in the Signature so that every single time you post that info comes up automatically.

I would recommend going to a gm parts dealer site like gmpartsdirect.com, enter your VIN, and pick through the categories for the part you need. They're not always complete, some parts have been discontinued or may not be shown, but you may be able to get the part # for the hose, or the steering box part number to crossreference at a site like Rockauto, Amazon, fleabay, etc.

This is what I sort of concluded that I might need to do but wondered if some significant feature of the box would solve it. As common as this part seems to be replaced it seems this would be a little more streamlined. Wishful thinking I guess.

If I run into issues I will post back.

So I found out that the gear housings are simply, as stated, 1-piece or 2-piece. Its as simple as 3-bolts holding on a small housing at the steering shaft end that determines the "2nd design" version as listed on rockauto. Duh. But I didnt want to assume anything.

SO I now know my part number for the high pressure line.

When it comes to the return line.....has anyone used general power steering line (un-molded) and attached it to the $5 fittings available and if so how has that worked? I assume the molded will fit better and sometimes that molded version is the better way to go to eliminate issues. Power steering hose is stiff IIRC. But maybe I am wrong.

I don't see paying 25 for molded when $5 for fittings and 1.25/ft for hose is available????

Thoughts?

Thanks.

You don't want the return line to get kinked and cause problems, if you can route it without it abraiding on anything or kinking, go for it. I've never considered this route and thus have not actually looked to see what might need to be done.
