Here's a question- are you sure it's actually shifting into 2nd gear? If you've lost second gear it may seem like it's just shifting late, when in fact it may be skipping 2nd altogether. That's what happened to me in my 05, and some how I didn't realize that's what it was.

Long story short, new transmission. If you just bought the vehicle I'd be talking to the dealer. If it was like that driving off the lot they should fix it free. Hopefully they're honest. If not, hopefully they'll so do something. Some places will offer some sort of short warranty even if you didn't buy an extended plan.

I don't think they will reply- their last post in this thread was in 2013.

I know this is very very late to the party here but incase other people have a similar issue, maybe this can help.

need to make sure the trans actually shifts into second gear and not just bypass it into 3rd. my trans broke the band that goes around the drum. the external servo was fine, just the band broke. I replaced the band and was good to go.

How much did you pay for just the band? I ended up replacing the whole thing at 155,000 miles but wonder how much it would've saved me.

I'd say if you were in a cold region like me it's normal when cold that it revs higher to change to 2nd it's an inbuilt feature gmc has to help the engine warm up faster at higher rpm.But after that highway transmission slipping that's not normal
