Torque management is the culprit. It's what makes it a dog off the line and at shift point.

So will a handheld fix this or do I need Black bear? Sorry, not trying to be hardheaded and I do appreciate the help, but I find it hard to believe that a handheld tuner will do nothing and that Blackbear is it for tuning even a little bit. Like I said in a different post, with my Titan, we had Uprev which was the equivalent to EFI Live I guess. But, it really wasn't absolutely necessary unless you had headers or wanted to add a cam etc. With minor bolt-ons like CAI and exhaust, all the big handheld tuner companies were fine and they had pretty impressive results.

If my main problem is with torque management, is that all based in the TCM? Is Black bear my only option for getting into that if that's the case?

Oh, and thanks 73 and B4 and everyone else for the replies.

I believe that Blackbear can remove some or all of the torque mgmt and do lots of other stuff based upon what you want.

I don't know if any handheld tuners can do it but then they will cost as much or more than BB. At least you should check w/ him.

Look real close look at add-ons like CAIs, cat-back exhaust, etc and you'll see that most, if not all, the hp increase occurs at high rpm. Not much good for stop lite racing. ;)

Yeah, I could feel that and the track was a testament to that. My truck was a full second faster with minor boltons and it trapped the same as the Yukon. Plus I was pretty much the same weight. Titans are torque monsters. I'm a 42 year old veteran with a second kid almost here, so I just like to go fast when at the track, or in short bursts. Looks like I'm stuck with the track now. Hahaha. Thanks again.

Wow, I just got lambasted over on the Sierra/Silverado forum. I joined to find some more info about the 5.3 since it has a much bigger performance section than here, no offense. They came unglued because I tried to post questions asking about tunes and such for my Yukon. "This is a Siearra only forum, blah blah blah". Jesus, I'm just trying to get some different answers about their beloved engine. I understand their point in a way, but you'd think they'd be happy about a GM owner in general. It's not like I was going to be a post ***** there. Wow, that's all I can say.

BlackBear will give you custom TCM tunes and you can request the amount of torque management. They've done mods for some members like Sumo's where they removed it almost entirely for a SPORT/track mode that can be engaged when pressing the tow-haul mode button. I had my '11 tuned via the AutoCal by them for Daily Driving and a performance 91+octane tune and absolutely love it!

Nelson is the owner of that forum :slap:

You are correct, all or none of the TM can be taken care of (and anything inbetween).

To the OP, Black Bear uses EFILive for all tuning on 98+ vehicles.

I also went from a nissan titan to a 2007 tahoe. Very disappointing step down power wise. My titan also ran a 14.9 with little bolt-ons. Loved the titan in every aspect but the tahoe averages about 4 mpg better. I remember pulling a 2600 pound trailer with the titan and getting 9 mpg. I pull a 6000 pound trailer with the tahoe and get almost 12 mpg. I like my tahoe but if it wasn't for the kids I would have kept my titan!
