I am increasingly annoyed by a sound that developed on what I would say is the front left of my Tahoe a few weeks ago. When going over bumps it sounds like something is seriously loose, a hollow rattle or clunk of sorts. It drives great and there are no vibrations.

What in the hell could this be? I haven't had time yet to try to investigate.

Do you have autoride? I had a shock go bad on our Denali. It rattled like a ball in a can. Replaced the shocks, problem gone and it rides better. Kind of pisses me off that GM sells a shock for $250-500, depending where you buy, that only lasts 65k miles.

No, I'm pretty sure it doesn't have autoride. Anybody else got any idea of where I should be looking? I may actually have time this weekend to investigate a little.

ChrisAU,
Have you taken the vehicle to the dealer yet for them to diagnose it? If you would like to provide me with the name of your local dealer along with your VIN number and name I can set up an appointment for you. Let me know.

How many miles? What kind of bumps causes the sounds. Mine has always made a squish/rattle sound over tall and sharp speed bumps.

In any case, check the IFS bushings to see if they are deteriorated or cracked. Then at least check the top of the struts to make sure the connections are tight. You can jack one of the front side up just to have the tire off the ground and check if there is any play by moving that tire. If there is that might help isolate the issue.

When you jack up the truck, put your hands @ 12 & 6 o'clock....then push back and forth on the tire. Essentially you are trying to push the tire inwards toward the fender well and then back towards you.

After that test, put your hands @ 9 & 3 o'clock...then try to spin the tire both clockwise and counter clockwise.

This test as Zed mentioned, will help to isolate a few issues. Essentially...your tire shouldn't move in the two tests above...report back to us!!

As far as I know, all Denalis have autoride. I think a "service suspension" message came up 2-3 times shortly before replacing the shocks.
