Hey guys,

So, my truck is not in best shape in the world, 180k plus now. The interior needs new carpet, the driver's side was hit and not repaired well, but well enough, drivers door still has two large dents from the previous owners lack of care in that incident.

Here is the deal, I love it. However, I am battling the rust on the roof rack, just did a repair a while back and was able to drill out the rust, jb weld it, coat it in rust inhibitor, then paint...then I siliconed the rack down.

The front lip of the hood looks like a disaster, hit with tons of rock and lots of little rust spots starting. So, with this in mind, I am thinking about painting on a truck bed liner "bug shield."

It would cover the rust and paint problem...but I am wondering if it would just look terrible...Have any of you tried this?

Never done it, but I've seen it done on older trucks locally.
I think it looks ok if the truck looks 'off roady'. Just up to you if you would like the look.

I know this isn't what you want, but it can give you an idea with only some of the front bed lined.

Thank you! I am not decided yet. I think it will look good, but I don't know if my skills are up to this kind of job - it would have to be a clean line. I do know my back bumper is a lost cause and I will probably do this to it as it is already painted = maybe I will start there.

Did it on my old '96 Tahoe, looked good, actually. I went up onto the hood about 5", and taped off a straight line from side to side, then masked off the rest. Used a sander with some 200 grit to give the paint some "tooth", then used a single can of spray-on bedliner.

Nice! Thanks! Does anyone have any pictures? I think it would look nice, just not 100% sure I am ready to start painting my car - gulp.

What color is yours? Mine was the dark green, I did black on mine.

I don't think you are all that concerned with it being a color match, as you said, it has it's fair share of dents and dings. But, if you are concerned about the bedliner cover-up sticking out like a sore thumb, you can try to find some that's close to the same color, or even rattle-can it afterwards.

I painted my entire truck in bed liner and it looks bad ass...I bought 2 gallons of Herculiner, a few textured 4'' paint rollers and rolled on 2 coats

check out my build thread starting at comment #800 to get an idea of what your up against

Lots of great things are said about Raptor liner when spraying whole vehicles.
