instead of taking the correct route and hooking the fans up through the PCM, could you just wire the fans up so when the engine is running the fans are on? Would that cause any problems? From how im looking at the situation if i ran an optima red/yellow top and had the fans wired as said i dont think there would be any issues, or maybe im wrong

They pull a lot of power & there is no point to run them all the time. They aren't meant to run all the time either.

If you're converting to OE fans than it's a relatively simple relay harness & it's cheap.

If you did run it off a keyed 12v you better make sure it's relayed & draws main power from the batt BUT I wouldn't recommend it. The fans don't run & shouldn't run all the time.

Negatives are lower gas mileage, more engine power loss (higher alt load), & shortened fan life.

I spent about two weeks calling all the salvage yards in my area looking for a factory fan set up with no luck finding one in decent shape. So I just went on Amazon and ordered a brand new Dorman 620-653 replacement set for $160. I figure the extra $35 was worth it for a new one......

If it's makes you feel better i spent $250 on junkyard fans. I figured out the fans were on rock auto new for a lot less afterwards. Been trying to help others not make the same mistake.

I have about $1k in my fan setup. You don't want them to run all the time. Trust me.

Feel better now huh.
