how do you screw this up?

I know how...
I ordered some side window deflectors from Weathertech and they screwed up the order...that's a whole other story. Anyway, so instead of waiting for replacements (as I don't think they have the right part anyway), I went to the local autozone and picked up a set of AVS visors there. I've used them in the past...they look half way decent, and aren't very expensive.

But silly me...I waited until almost sun-down before I started to put them on. The first one (drivers side front) went on without a hitch...it was still light out. By the time I was putting on the the passenger side front, it was pretty much dark out.
I followed that up by putting on the two rear visors...both were easier than the front, just because they're smaller and more evenly applied.

So now I have three that are on, pretty much as straight as they can be...but my passenger side front is not straight. I want to take it off and re-apply it. Thing is, that 3M tape is strong stuff. I have a roll of it...so if I pull the thing off, I can always put new tape on...I'm just a little worried about pulling it off...and then when I do get it off, will I be able to get the original tape off...as I don't want to try to re-use it.

Any suggestions...I swear, I'll do this while it's light outside!

To remove it from the vehile just heat it up a little with a hair dryer or a heat gun on low and it will come off. Then get a razor blade and scrape the 3M tape off the wind deflector make sure you scrape all of it off. Then clean the area with rubbing alcohol then apply the new 3m tape and your done. I've done this process with previous vehicles same thing with wind deflectors. Be patient when getting all of the old 3M tape off.

Thanks bro...I'll give that a shot...I've used dental floss or fishing line in the past....maybe with a little heat, the process will be a little easier.
Much appreciated

May I ask what issue you had with WeatherTech.? I ordered mine from them awhile back and had absolutely no issues. I like the WeatherTech side window deflectors better because they are an in channel deflector rather then the stick on ones. I had stick on ones from the dealer, and was not too fond of them. In my opinion, the in channel ones look like a much cleaner install, but to each their own. :Handshake:

Anyways, as the previous poster mentioned, just apply some heat and I typically use fishing line. Obviously, you will need some new tape to replace the old. Good luck!

Honestly both the WT and the Putcos I've had in the past I pulled right off with very little effort. They use the weakest type of double sided 3M tape.

If it were me I'd try to find the same stuff they use ... you don't want those things adhered on there like body side moldings. That way you don't have to ever deal with taking a heat gun to it.

I've had these on every truck since my 01 Expy...they've never come off through countless car washes, wind storms, etc...so the tape seems to be adequate. I'm pretty sure that if I gave these a good yank, theyd come off.. But they could break too.
My buddy looked at the truck and said I was being crazy...that it was barely noticeable..and if I hadn't shown him, he wouldn't have seen it at all. He works in an auto body shop..so i might just leave them alone.

As far as the weathertech issue.. Well.,first...I like the idea of an in channel design..but I picked up the really dark avs brand, and they look pretty good on my already black truck...so I'll probably stay with them.
Weathertech sent me the wrong part...I specifically ordered for a 2007 and later Yukon...it says that on the receipt and order sheet...but on the packaging itself, both front and back are showing 01-06 Yukon...it says it right on the plastic! And believe me... They're not even close to fitting..when I called the cs woman asked me what the part number was...I told her and she said that's the right number. I explained that its got to be wrong in their system because these are two different parts for two completely different vehicles.,.she didn't want to hear it. So I said that I just wanted to return them then..which was fine until they told me that I had to pay the shipping...this will cost me 15 to 20 dollars...which is bs...it's their mistake. If I had ordered the wrong part it would be one thing..they sent me the wrong part...so that's what's going on. I'm going to send them back...but it's not the last they've heard from me!

You know..I can be as stubborn as the next guy...but I have to admit..I think I'm at fault with this weathertech thing. Before shipping them back, I took another look...drumroll...I was wrong...these do fit...and they are indeed the in- channel design you guys were talking about. Silly me...I did mention I'm not the most mechanically inclined ;)
Anyway, cause I've always used the stick on type, I'm gonna give these a shot. I was able to remove the ones I bought last night fairly easily and they're not damaged whatsoever. I hope I'm not breaking any forum rules here...but I did pay 60 bucks for these...anyone looking for a set, give me a shout...I'll sell them dirt cheap. I'd return them, but I already threw out the packaging. You might have to buy a roll of the 3m tape, as I wouldn't try to reuse this...but they are a nice set.
Pm me if interested.
Thanks again...I'd have never checked if it wasn't for the comments in this thread!

I have had both types and the WT ones are easy to install and look way better than the AVS stick on ones.....

And everyone makes mistakes....just don't admit that to Weathertech ;)
