How does the DRL work from factory?

My 02 Tahoe got very dim lights in the DRL, got new bulbs and everything seems to be in order.

Here in norway i suspect the dealer/GM Norway fiddles with the DRL due to some old restrictions in norway and uses them as position lights.

when i look at your cars they all seem so very bright and nice, and actually used as a DRL, mine are very dim and cannot be used as DRLs.

want to get it stock as it was meant to be..

In the USA, the DRL's come on when the engine is running and the transmission is in any position other than park. So, as soon as you leave park, they come on. Also, the automatic light sensor on the dash has to see that it is light outside as well, or they will not come on.

In the 2002 models, if the parking brake is applied, this will shut off the DRL system and automatic light system until you release the parking brake. You can also disable the automatic lights and DRL's by pressing the DOME OVERRIDE button 3 or 4 times quickly while the engine is running and it will shut them off. You will hear a DING sound when you do this. If you press the switch the same number of times again, it will turn the system back on.

All of this resets back to normal when you shut the truck off and restart it.

I was thinking mine were NOT working properly as I just got the vehicle last month. Didn't realize that the DRL only came on when in gear.

I replaced the DRLs with LEDs bought off of Amazon. (link below )Also replaced the reverse lights with the same bulbs. A LOT brighter than stock and hopefully won't burn out as often. The sockets looked a little torched. Not sure if this will help your situation or not but if the LEDs illuminate that should solve your issue.

hi guys, my dome override button will not cancel the DRLs no matter how much i press it..
when i start the car, it is daylight outside(daylightsensor is working), i got no lights at all in "0" position. and in "park" position they are very dim, not qualified as daytime driving lights at all. when it is light outside, arent they supposed to be bright?

when it is dark outside, all lights are lit no matter what except in park with emergency brake applied when started. cannot cancel with dome override button.

If your "automatic headlight system" is working correctly you should not have any lights on in any gear while daytime except for the inner running lights.

Are you pushing the dome override button while ignition is on? also 4 times within 6 seconds?

Is your Tahoe a European-spec model? Or was it an American model that was just converted to meet EU specs? The EU models have their lights operate slightly differently than the American models.
