I'd rather have a built level 6 65e than a stock 80e anyday

several have blown level 6 & 7 4l60es in vehicles that weigh a lot loss than yours. IMO a LEVEL 1 or 2 4l80e will do you better.

A stock 80e with a simply shift kit is good to hold 650hp. I mean you can always build it up from there.

I personally don't care if I do have a warranty on a 2000$ tranny if it brakes. Its like the cheap parts at a auto store that come with lifetime warranties. Do your rather replace a part 10 times as it has a life time warranty? or would you pay double to triple the price for the durability of a good part, that has only a 2 yr warranty, and requires you to never swap out the part any time soon.

to the original poster, I would not hesitate to do the swap to a 80e. You will get way better answers to your question on www.performancetrucks.net < they have experience.

dude you keep going on about weight and other crap information again. weight does play a role but it has been proven a 65e built properly can handle serious power. personally id recommended the 80e to someone with a 12.0 - 11 sec daily driver truck but anything slower than that i dont see the point. lifetime warranties are for cheap parts??? FLT offers lifetime warranties on there trans and i can safely say there far from cheap parts. and you keep talking about people blowing up transmissions can i ask what shop they had them built by? ive heard probably 30 stories about trans builders who build transmissions for race cars that handle 1000 horse bla bla bla and they blow up 1 week later in someones street driven truck. go with a reputable company and it will last just as long as an 80e. you've owned 5 gm trucks well ive owned 4 trucks and a camaro and im only 21. i have experience also and im on pt.net and silveradoss.com also.

for example this truck. he is my tuner and i know him personally very well. hes had his FLT 65e for years behind 2 different setups and it went 10.8 in the 1/4. i know another truck with a forged 370 and a TVS 2300 running a FLT 65e trans also. his truck went 11.5 before the new motor

Im getting that the stage 1 80 is a good option but will also rob power and i would imagine gas mileage. Does anyone know how much an 80e swap actually costs for misc parts not the tranny itself, i know there are threads about it but it never seems to answer my question. i know you need a wiring adapter or harness, tune, drive shafts. and past that im lost. would the costs of installing a junkyard 80 be more than getting a built 65e?

would you choose the performabuilt level 2 60e or the flt level 5 60e. sorry for noob questions here

im not sure on the cost but i know you need a different driveshaft, different crossmember, torque converter, wiring, and tuning. im probably missing a few things here and there. if your going with a built 65 go with FLT

^ That doesnt account for new crossmember, drive shafts, wiring harness, tune, flexplate, spacers, bolts, or transfer case...

The transmissions in both the Tahoe and the SSS held up very well, with a ton of boost behind them. These are big trucks no matter how you look at it, but a properly built transmission should hold.

The SSS now has a level 5 65e with 650+hp, no problems. The 80s are a different animal, and many don't like the shifting patterns when going from a 60/65.

Hoe, are you running NA or FI?

Jenna bear I am runing Na. With plans of boost from a turbo or procharger. Truck runs great no lag or nothing people describe, but I do have a 3700 stall. I like the swap. Also like the whine from it too. The 80e is louder for sure, but sounds good.
