Because foglights reduces your nightsight when they are combined with lowbeams. But these foglights suck anyways, but alot better with LED.
Huh? Please explain. How does more light reduce visibility?

Because foglights lights up The road just infront off the car, you get "blinded" by the bright light infront of you, and your eyes arent able to focus further away where the lowbeams are.

I say BS. I've used fog lights for over 40 years with low beams on at night, and I've tried just running with fog lights only and can't see shit without my low beams on in the fog. I mean, unless you only want to drive 15 mph. Plus oncoming traffic can't see you as well.

+1000

What complete nonsense. My low beams light up everything around me. Trees directly on the side of the road etc. I can't even see the road right in front of me, the hood itself is like 5' long and 4' off the ground.

I drive at night, in the country, on windy roads and turning off my fog lights does nothing but limit what I can see.

Didn't mean that you should drive with only fogs at night. But when you use lowbeams and fogs together , foglights will reuce your eyes ability too see when its dark, Because of the hotspot of light close to the front off the car. Thats the reason for the law atleast. But of course there are differences between cars and light output. And and i use my foglights too at night, just because the headlights suck at my tahoe

And 5mph if its heavy fog and you use the foglights only.

Utter nonsense.

Would love to read the actual statute to hear their explanation.

I always thought the clear lights were just "running lights", and not true fog lights. But amber color lights penetrated the fog better and were true fog lights.
