Unfortunately, there's no way around it. The bumper has to come off to remove the headlights. There are a total of four bolts that hold the headlight in. The two obvious ones under the hood and these two.

Once removed, the headlight pulls straight out.

I also put some HIR bulbs in for the high beams.

This site does a much better job of explaining HIR bulbs than I ever could. Been using them in my past vehicle high beam and fog locations and been very happy.

Are you replacing the headlight housings? To change a bulb you just remove the air intake box. There are a bunch of threads here that show you how. Also, HIR is pretty old tech, definitely won't match the OEM HID or aftermarket LED colour temp. Still, curious toes what how they look. Do you have any pics?

Not replacing them. Had the bumper off to do the Denali grille and thought it would be a good opportunity to show what's needed to remove the headlights in case anyone ever has to.

I don't plan to use HID in the high beam locations...too long to come on and warm up for my preferences. Not going for matching the color temp with the HID or LED either. Although, it sure would be great if GM would use a bi-xenon setup in their HIDs.

I'm of the opinion that, for the most amount of useable light without the undesirable characteristics if HID or LED, HIR technology fits the bill for me.

I'll grab a pic this evening.

cmatt-
Speaking of bumper removal, I'm interested in installing the Denali grille on my 2015. Where did you find a tutorial/instructions on how to remove the bumper to do the grille install?

Thanks!

I did a "how to" on it in this section. For some reason I can copy/paste the link.
