I am looking at making more power in the future in my 98 Tahoe. I have been working on F-bodies for years and know those 10bolts are junk when you start making any power. How are these 10bolts in the Tahoe's? It is a 4 door 2wd model with 3.42's and LSD. I want to change the ratio a bit due to the fact I will be towing with it. So what ratio should I go with I was thinking 4.10 and having the trans built to hold the power and hold lock up on the highway for fuel eco. Let know what you think and any experiances with this. Thanks.

There are guys running 10s on built 10 bolts with slapper bars. They can be made strong ... you can do the same thing to your 10 bolt that you can to the car version. I wish I had a lil more money last time I was in the rear of mine, I would have went with cap studs, reinforced cover, welded tubes, etc.

I towed with 3.73s and it did fine. I have 3.90s in now. I wanted a lil more RPMs at 65, my OD was locking and unlocking going up the small hills here so ...

Ok cool, so what kind of rpms were you seeing with the 3.73 V's the 3.90's or have you not towed on the 3.90's? I'm not going to be laying the wood to the rear just towing. I guess I need to do the math on the 4.10's and see where that would put me. Do you know of any write ups on building up the 10 bolt?

14 bolt is really common and a easy swap to do

What is the 14 bolt out of? 3/4 ton?

Not all the 14 bolt are on 3/4 ton. My SS has a 9.5" 14 bolt rear end. The ones in the 3/4 ton is the 10.5" 14 bolt.

I haven't towed with the 3.90s yet. I'm just doing the 500 mile fluid change now so ... I can get on it after this. :D

lol the ones in the camaro's are garbage!!!! lol I have to upgrade that one first and thats not cheap. Gona be like 2500 bucks for 9inch or 12 bolt. Then I can work on the Hoe's rear :****:. I need to go to a junk yard and see what I can find. I might do that today.
