If you were closer I would trade you a CD player for your TV and even install it all.

Haha, yeah, I know for most people this is a "downgrade" and I can probably sell the used Alpine touchscreen for the cost of the new HU.

I'll tackle the install myself. Since it already has a full system in it, I believe it should be a very simple swap from old to new.

What's the model number on the alpine unit?

The old head unit is an Alpine IVA-W200. According to Crutchfield, they sold for about a grand and have been discontinued.

I managed the install just fine... sort of.

I connected the wires the same as they were before and stereo works well and plays through all the speakers. What I'm not sure about is the function of the interface adapter (specifically a Peripheral Interface Components model GMAH24). I couldn't find instructions or a wiring diagram online, and both before and after I have only three wires connecting it to the stereo (ground - Blk, hot - Yel, and accessory - Red.). The speakers all play through the amp which is connected to the stereo via the coax line-outs and I'm not sure if this is the normal way these stereos are hooked up.

Currently the controls on the steering wheel do nothing and I'm sure the stereo won't go mute if I hit the On-Star button (I didn't really want to play around with it though).

it sounds like its wired right. you would need a steering wheel control module to make those work again.

The GMAH24 basically just gives you a accessory power for the radio. also retains RAP which allows you to turn the key off, and the radio will stay on until you open a door.

OK, thanks.

I'll probably just leave it as is unless she really wants me to make the steering wheel controls work.
