For a while now I have had a light hum while driving my 01 hoe. I think it is coming somewhere from the front end. It seems to get louder when I corner, especially when taking a right hand curve. Last time I had the truck in for my free rotate and balance I told the guys about it and they said they would check the bearings. They checked and found nothing and told me it was my BFG AT's. I have had BFG's for years and they never make the noise. Andy suggestions?

Oh, this is not a stereo/speaker whine either.

Thanks guys!

Ok, time to sound like an idiot...Hub? Is that what holds the bearings? lol sorry to sound dumb. is this an easy fix? I can do my own brakes.

The sound sort of sounds like when my rear end blew up, gears and all, just not near as bad of a grinding noise. But I recently had a good buddy of mine check both front and rear and said they were good and the fluid was good.

Could it be ... THE HUM!?!

lol, I wish my head was playing games with me!

But it gets louder when I speed up then softer as I let off the gas and coast.

yes wheel bearing /hub, a little more involved than brakes, I believe there is a write up on replacing these ... check it out then decide if you want to tackle it. it comes as a hub assembly with the abs connector and studs.

Hub Bearing assembly is between 100 to 150 for the part (Timken). Not to hard in my opinion. Remove wheel, remove brake caliper( 2 bolts) and rotor. Three metric bolts hold the hub to the spindle. there is also a speed sensor that will have to be removed.. That is it.
Firestone wanted 376.00 to do. I say I save 276. in labor and do it myself...

Don't forget to take the axle nut off which needs a good air gun blast..

unless your 2wd.. then you don't have to worry

If you don't have an air gun just use a break over bar (that's what I did) and it's not too bad. You'll need a 36mm socket for that nut :waytogo:
