Hey guys I found a hypertech programmer here in town for 100 bux.. I was wondering if it was worth it. Reason I ask is I have always done custom tunes on my GTO and Vette. The only thing is I am slowly gathering parts for my 5.3 build and hoping to do a cam real soon. I would hate to pay for my tune and retune but will this hold me over?

I was wondering what all parameters it adjusts. Shift points etc? Anyone have any honest feedback on it?

A tuner who knows what their doing is the best way to go.
As far the cam swap goes, its easy if the engine is out of the truck, if it isn't get a set of push rods for 94-98 s-10 2.2l and put a set of 1.85 rockers. That will be the same as putting in a mild cam, which is about 40 points higher than stock.

I have a hypertech. It made a difference over stock. When I deprogram it I notice it even more and don't like it stock anymore. you can check trouble codes adfjust shift points, firmness, etc.. I have never had a custom tune so don't know how they compare. I'm sure the custom is better but for now this is what I have. $100 bucks to me is worth it. Just make sure what ever vehicle they last used on was deprogrammed if not you will not be able to use it. It saves your vin #. You can look at the website for info on what you adjust. http://www.hypertech-inc.com/Products/Max Energy

I had the Hypertech power programmer, I swear it didn't do a thing, shift wasn't firmer, and didn't feel any more giddy up. Drove it nice for a tank and gas mileage didn't get the least bit better. The only thing that worked was the speed limiter delete.

Cool yeah I am probably going with a custom spec cam and heads package. Never been one to wimp out so I may skip the hypertech for now. I really need to bite the bullet and buy hp tuners..

IMHO, no, wait...if you do a Black Bear tune now, and make any mod changes later that requires a new tune, re-tunes are free.

Just food for thought.
