I think I found my next vehicle. They said without seeing the Escalade, just based on year and mileage they would give me $17 on trade.
It’s a Yukon Denali with the 3.0 Duramax diesel. Fuel mileage is great, 765 highway miles on a tank. Breaks down to 21 city 27 highway 23 combined. Much better than the 15/20 on the 6.2 and I think we are getting 14/18 on the one we have now. It’s a has less horsepower but more torque. 277hp and 460ftlbs is what the inline 6 diesel is rated at. Sticker is $80,173 but the guy told me he’s allowed to give out a limited number of incentives and I can be close to $62 out the door with trade. He’s gonna email me a preliminary sales quote with invoice. This was the closest place to me that had one optioned like I wanted. It’s in Fond-du-lac WI 153 miles away so if I make the drive, it’s because the deal is done. Big decision to make, would be my first brand new vehicle and I couldn’t touch it for 5 years/100,000 miles so I don’t void the warranty. That’s gonna be hard. She’s not thrilled about having a diesel but she’s good with getting a new one and better mileage. Thoughts, input, talk me out of it?

Ok--do you really want a payment on a vehicle? That's on top of the 2 mortgages you're paying now! How long do you think you'll have it before she gets tired of having a diesel? I'd keep your existing vehicle because you know what's wrong with them--if anything, and you own them alright! Plus you can modify to your heart's content--the diesel? Not till 5 yrs from now! Just trying to help you out:cool:

I know. Jess is even back pedaling now. I think she’s scared I’ll kill her if she hits something in it. She wants to find a CTS that is couple years old. Now you want a CTS? She said she still wants to keep the Esky but she would like one of those.
I think the best thing is wait until the dust settles with the other house. One thing I don’t need is buyer remorse.
I’m gonna message that guy at Holiday Chevy now. Damn you and Jess. Lol.

It's beautiful, but the improvement in fuel economy isn't enough to offset ALL the extra expenses- new car note, price of diesel (unless you already run high octane like you should), not being able to mod it, the bigger concern of damaging a new $80K vehicle, etc. You're paying a dollar to avoid paying a dime. Plus, I'm not very impressed with the track record of these things. The diesel is new, and may be TOO new. Even if the engine itself is trouble-free, have the electronics and other cheap cut corners of this and the similar previous generation been resolved? GM has proven in many ways that their premium price doesn't equate to premium build quality.

I agree, I don’t think these new vehicles are worth the price they are asking for them but they are getting it and I don’t see it coming down anytime soon. My thought process was to just get her into a vehicle that I don’t have to touch for a while and also a family vacation cruiser that doesn’t need the premium fuel. It would take years to offset the fuel cost and that’s not including the vehicle cost. That engine has been out for a few years now offered in the trucks and has a great track record but I also hear what your saying about the computer systems too. I like the idea of the independent rear suspension and I’m sure it improves the ride quality. I think for now we will just keep what we have and next year I’ll look at them a little deeper and see if they come down in price.

Look for an 09> Yuke or Esky to run e85. Time the market to sell high and buy low if you're willing to take a road trip. Figure about a dollar or more saving between running e85 vs 91 or 93. On the West coast 91 is $4.20-$4.60 and e85 is $1.99-$2.69. 50 bucks to fill up an Esky ESV is nice especially since that 403 hp rating is based off the 100+ octane of the tune of corn fuel.

Had a little scare the other day. Jess was driving home from picking up Julianna from farm camp and calls me to tell me the Esky is driving strange. Her words, “it’s kinda like wanting to take off when I hit the brakes, like it’s not shifting right and not wanting to go.” Said there was no engine light or other warnings. All the gauges were normal and she was 15 minutes from the house. Last time this happened I ended up putting a trans in it. Oh Lord, please let this be something stupid.
She made it home and I crawled out of bed and hooked up scanner. Got a P0741 code, torque converter clutch circuit performance or stuck off. I cleared the code, checked the fluid and it was perfect looking. Not dark and didn’t smell bad so I took it for a ride. Shifted fine and gave me no issue. But I did notice that the blower motor was acting erratic meaning speeding up and then slowing down. Fan speed setting was on second bar and wasn’t fluctuating so I turned it to full blast and it went high but still wasn’t a steady speed. I asked her about it and she said, oh yeah, that’s been doing that for a little while and I forgot to tell you, but it still blows cold.
Why? She knows better than that. So first thing I did was hook up the tech2 and did the control solenoid valve assembly cleaning procedure. This cycles the solenoids and valves in the control solenoid valve assembly in an attempt to dislodge debris and free up the valves after a performance diagnostic trouble code has set. Hasn’t come back since so I’m not sure what to think. I might drop the pan and do an inspection and change the fluid and filter. Definitely gonna inspect the electrical connection too. Hope this was a fluke.
As far as the blower motor is concerned, I pulled the motor and the squirrel cage spun freely and there was no debris anywhere to be found. I couldn’t feel any roughness in bearings but it wasn’t like spinning a wheel on a bike, it should have some resistance which it did. Then I pulled the blower motor resistor and it looked like crap. Normal but crappy. So I got on Rockauto and ordered both fan and resistor. These aren’t like the old ones where you could read the resistance of each speed setting. It’s actually a module.
The blower motor resistor wasn’t gonna be here until Wednesday and it was Friday so I ordered a $28 one off Amazon that had good reviews and it showed up yesterday (Sunday) and the blower motor came this morning. I ran to her work and grabbed the truck and brought it home and swapped it out. Works like it should again but I’m still gonna swap out the resistor module when the ACDelco unit shows up on Wednesday.

I hope this is the only issue I have for a while. I don’t have time for any problems right now!
