Well, that rig at 20 years old probably has 10 more years left in it with minimal maintenance while a new one will have maybe 5 if you're lucky, that's probably why these old ones are holding their value so well

I'll make fun of GM's 4.8L any day of the week, and twice on Sunday ...
but I prefer an old GMT800 (or even a GMT900) that'll last another 10 years that might take a 6.0L swap later,
over a younger more complicated k2xx or t1xx with less life left in it.

Been a Chevy truck guy for a while now, and I've noticed the following pattern:

1. Chevy truck generation is well regarded by it's owners, most of whom bought their trucks used when they had depreciated after their first owners
2. A beautiful example of a truck from that generation sells for what everyone thinks is an astronomical price
3. Prices start to go up, especially on highly desirable examples of that generation
4. Everyone with a truck of that generation starts to think their truck is worth Barrett-Jackson prices
5. Prices level off somewhat, but never really fall back to where they were before

I've seen this happen to squarebodies and OBS trucks and recently OBS SUVs (take a look at a 2 door 2wd Tahoe or a 2000 Tahoe limited for example). I bet we start seeing the GMT800s go up a bit here pretty soon. I don't think my turd is gonna be worth 25k anytime soon, but I wouldn't be surprised if the days of getting a super clean GMT800 for under 10k are probably numbered.
