I just Googled PO15 for Canada and it popped up. It does come at a price and there is a good deal of prep but I think it is going to be worth it in the end. What ever I use it is going to require prep for it to last.

Bowtie, I wish my truck looked half as good as yours. I wish I had the forethought when I got my truck 12 years ago to do some of this then.

...As for rust, I feel it and I am going to go with POR15....

Huh! Funny. I just picked up a small litre of por15 a few weeks ago at the Barrie auto fleamarket at Burl's Creek. Darn stuff was $50 no tax a can!

Did you buy any of the other prep stuff from them to go with it? The Acid rust wash, or the enamel stuff to go over top of it? I didn't.

I was just going to experiment with the rear wheel wells and see if it's any good.

Keep us posted with your results! Sounds like you have your work cut out for you! It's a good thing you like your truck!

I use rustolium every year come spring. MY frame looks really good in the tahoe and ok in the suburban. I always find a way to wash the truck after every strom at least with a pressure washer to do under the truck

Your Tahoe is the inspiration for many of us. I've looked at your pics, all I can say is wow!

I knew that you touched up the paint every year. I'm trying to determine if I should or even could try that myself.
What I didn't know was that you pressure wash after every storm? Oh boy! that would be daily for me then. And with no PW in the winter, I won't be able to follow in those mighty big footsteps!

Oh well, guess I'm back to oil spray and experimenting with por15.

... Primer everything well and undercoat it with a rubberized paint...

Up here, it gets too cold for the rubberized paint to stay flexable so it ends up cracking with small hairline cracks.
Then the water/salt gets in those cracks and gets underneath the rubberized paint.
Then the metal stays wet because there is no way/place for the water/salt to drain to.
Then the metal underneath completely rots out, but a visual inspection looks good because it's covered up by the paint. We are talking Loony or Toony sized holes in metal covered up by the rubber paint.

I've actually experienced accelerated rust/rot using that stuff up here. It's NOT recommended in cold weather.

Thanks though... keep the ideas comming....

I have not purchased yet but I am about to. At $120 a gallon it really is not that bad. Certain red tints for automotive use is upwards of $300.00 a quart so I do not feel completely violated.

I will be taking pictures as I go forward and post when I have some progress.

I went with Rustoleum rust converter and did the frame, wheel wells and any areas showing rust this past weekend. Since my truck has never seen a winter (that will change this year) I just had some issues with slight surface rust. I am hoping to keep ahead of the rust.

In the spring my plan is to do a thorough powerwash, hit it again with the rust converter and (taking Kris's - AKA BowTieFreak - suggestions) then paint on semigloss over the converter.

The Rustoleum converter is available at Lowe's and Home Depot and I used 4 cans of it at a cost of about $30 total.

99Yuk, the picture of my sled sitting was from a few winters ago and was taken in Old Forge NY, the other picture was from last season up on the Tug Hill plateau. I am not afraid to go to the snow when I have to. I would love to ride the trails you have up there someday as I hear nothing but good things about them from friends who ride Canada a lot.

Could always use bed liner. Its not ruberized just very rugged and you can get it in spray or roll on form. The primer alone has always been enough for me though.

Well I tack;ed the brake lines this weekend. I replaced the two front lines from the ABS Module to each front wheel. That Line from the left frame rail to the right wheel under the rad cradle is a BIOTCH!!! Would have completed it if the auto parts store had sold me the correct fittings and I had made the line and had it in place before I found the problem!!!
