I recently had my windows tinted and the guy at the garage suggested I should get DOD done to my tahoe.
It has 63000. Miles on it
Any thoughts or suggestions

Without mechanically dod deleting the engine it is basically a ticking time bomb I tuned mine out and was able to prolong the life of my engine but it was a bandaid it’s about 1500$ in parts to dod delete a 5.3 but it’s a good opportunity for a cam swap while it’s apart and when you get done the engine should last for 200-300,000 miles or more

It’s very hit or miss my 07 reached over 400,000 miles with the dod still inside with nothing but a tune disabling it
My dads hit 90,000 and trashed the top end
I see all the time on here of the newer ones blowing up with 20-40,000 miles on them
The problem if you don’t mechanically delete it by doing a new cam lifters etc then when the lifter finally does go you have the chance to mess your head up valve springs cam shaft valves it could turn into a nightmare quickly

Basically the springs in those dod lifters like to collapse or break which then shuts oil off to that cylinder and when it would go into v8 mode again then you have a oil starved cylinder if you plan on keeping the vehicle you can do the delete yourself for around 1500$ in parts if your paying someone to do it for you expect it to be more around 2500-3,000$ unless you know someone who will do it cheap but also knows what they are doing
