Hey all,

Finally getting around to removing the gold bow ties from the truck (now that the gold from the wheels is gone). But, I'm seeing some conflicting reports.

Do I NEED to remove the grille/something around the grille in order to access the clips on the back of the bow tie? With those clips off, should the emblem come right off, or should there be tape holding it on still?

If someone has how-to pics and whatnot (or, just a written tutorial), that'd be great.

Thanks!

In the brush near the river.
There are two nuts on posts that come off the back of the bow tie. You simply unscrew them and pop it off. I didn't have to remove any other parts from the engine compartment to access them. Just wedge your hands down there and unscrew them.

Watch out for hot / sharp components under the hood.

I think it is a 11mm socket that fits...reach down by the hood latch. Piece of cake. There is a small piece of 2 sided adhesive tape but not enough to cause any problems. The back gold emblem will separate from the silver too without complete removal. It is held on by a big goop of adhesive glue stuff...heat and slowly work some braided fishing line between the 2 and work your way accross. Once off remove the adhesive on the back side and paint or dip to your preferance. Re-install with small dabs of automotive silicone adhesive.

SW CT,
Just did my suburban 2 days ago...used a 10mm socket. I had to loosen the 4 inner bolts that hold the grill on in order to make room for my mitts, then removed the 2 nuts from the back of the bowtie and pushed from the backside so I could get a grip on the bowtie, I ended up using a putty knife to aid in releasing the adhesive tape that is right behind the middle of the bowtie.

Thanks, folks!

I just tried the 10mm on the back of the bow tie, and I swear that it didn't grab the nuts back there. I must have not seated it back completely, or maybe the post length kept the 10mm socket from seating all the way... But it seemed like that wasn't going to do the trick.

I think I need to undo the shroud to some degree and really get in there.

Thanks!

I used the small Craftsman with the extended socket...put your hand in first, then "hand yourself the ratchet. I have big hands and it was a tight fit but I didn't have to remove anything.

This is exactly what I did as well :waytogo:
