I smell gas

O.K., every time I fill up I get a strong smell of gas inside the truck. At first I thought maybe the gas cap was bad, "not giving a proper seal". So I upgraded to a locking gas cap with the hopes that it would take care of the problem. No luck. The smell stays for a while maybe 2 or 3 days. I have seen the under body and it looks clean, no rot and very little rust. So i'm shaking my head.

Does anyone have any idea's what could be the issue ?
I have a 99 Tahoe LS 4dr.
I'd appreciate any help I can get, Thanks..

If you smelt it u delt it. Jk try changing rhe fuel filter could be clogged and causing gas to escape from the lines

Check the purge canister and all the hookups ... Also there is a vented and non vented cap, you need to make sure you have the right one for the type of fuel system you have, locking and non locking mean nothing.

no lines run in the truck obviously but the do run along the left frame rail till the get behind the engine and go up and forward from there. get back down the with good lighting and inspect from the top of tank with mirrors all the way to top of engine. if you smell it you are leaking pretty good and might be leaving some staining behind and i would not drive it till it is fixed.

I cant fill my tank fully without smelling gas until I drive around for 70 miles. I found out I have a bad gas tank leak towards the top somewhere. Until I can replace the entire gas tank i just fill her up 3/4 full.

yeah it is like the pump lock ring seal.

I filled up my truck last night for the first time since I bought it and the same thing happened.
