Hi,

I went to look at a Tahoe yesterday advertised as a 2008 "Tahoe Z71 4x4". I'm going back tomorrow morning to drive it and to decide if I want to buy it.

In the meantime I've been searching the internet to find some details. As far as I can tell there is no such model as a Z71. The model will actually be either a 2LT or 3LT with the optional Z71 Off-Road package. Is this correct?

I have also been to look at a 2008 LTZ which is for sale for slightly less money.

I'm having real difficulty working out which is the better car. They both have leather, GPS, TV, DVD, etc. What do people think?

Any advice gratefully received.

Thanks,

Chris

i know you can get the z71 package on a lt...i dont think the z71 has autoride..i am not 100%...but i would bet the ltz has a better ride..get which ever one has the autoride shocks...if they both do then it is just up to you what you want the interior to look like.

You're correct, Z71 is a package, but a lot of people refer to them as just "a Z71" because it's easier and they really do seem like their own model...I love the looks of those.

The LTZ will have Autoride like jee123 said, and it is a smoother ride. The Z71 has a stiffer ride because it is more of an off-road type. What color interior is the Z71 you're looking at? In my opinion I really like the two-toned seats.

Basically it comes down to looks and/or ride quality.

Thanks for the replies so far guys.

I don't know if the Z71 has the autoride shocks but I will use whatever I buy off-road (in the desert). Having said that I might not use it off road very often - maybe 3 or 4 times a year.

The interior of the Z71 is really nice - the two tone leather seats especially!

Main requirements were a nice looking and comfortable interior, a sat-nav system, a way to connect my ipod to the radio, and a TV for the back seat. Both cars I've looked at have all these.

Both cars are 2008 model.

The LTZ has around 50,000 miles and is $27,500

The Z71 has around 18,000 miles and is $33,000

Any comments?
(I'm not in the U.S. so the prices might be different to what you'd pay there).

Thanks,

Chris

The Z71 will not have Autoride shocks. That is probably why there is no such thing as an LTZ with Z71, the LT3 Z71 has all the features of an LTZ minus the Autoride, and maybe power-fold captains.

That Z71 you're looking at still has HALF of its warranty left. Well, warranty on small things not working and such, but with any GM you're gonna have a 100,000 mile warranty on the engine and what not.

If it were me, I'd go for the Z71. I haven't noticed much difference between my mom's Escalade (Autoride) and my Tahoe (standard) to call it worth paying for. The looks of the Z71 get me, and the one you're looking at has 32,000 less miles. Might be a bit more expensive...but it could be worth it.

I would go with the Z71, not to be bias, but i clearly like the package better. Plus your miles are less and you stated, though limited, your off road use. Autoride may be better but the z71 suspension is outstanding as well, i wouldnt let that be a factor - besides just one more thing to break! haha

Both seem like a good deal. Buy the one YOU really want.

LOL - you're right! I DO want the Z71. I'm just trying to find a reason to justify (to myself!) spending an extra $5,500!

Well, you're knocking off 32,000 miles! And you are only halfway through the warranty whereas the LTZ is well over the warranty. If you had a problem that wasn't drive-train related, you gotta pay for all those repairs whereas the Z71 would be covered.
