I have done the key fob idea before, and it works pretty well, I just hate dealing with an individual key fob and also a set of keys.
Just put the fob on a quick-release clip like they sell at a locksmith. Release the fob from the keys when you want to do this.

So you don't think there is a risk of losing the vehicle to a window smasher who sees the truck running with the key in the ignition? Every winter there are cars stolen that are left running to warm up.

I installed a Safestop on my 07 Yukon. Works great. Flip switch, pull key. If someone hits the brake pedal to shift into gear, car dies.

Not familiar with the PPV. Does it have remote start. It's another option. The car runs 10 minutes without having the key in it so you have plenty of time to go back and forth. Other than that I do the same as mentioned above for my wife's older bmw since it's a 5 speed there's no remote start so i just leave the key in it and use the fob for lock/unlock and access to the rear hatch.
