I'm new here, but I need a write up on a shock install please.

Just like the title reads, my dad has a 1998 Tahoe LT 5.7L 4WD 4door I believe, and he is in the market for new shock absorbers. I have a Jeep and I just installed a set of HD Bilsteins and I'm very happy. But what is best choice for a bigger truck like this? And I believe the shocks are inside the coils? Unlike my Jeep where the absorber and coil are separate, I'm curious on how to change the shocks on this kind of setup. Anyone know of a decent writeup?

Thanks

I'm not sure but on my 2wd you have 2 bolts on bottom of the a-arm and one under the hood on each side. They make a special tool for the top bolt you can rent at the auto parts store but you don't really need it if you can keep the shaft from spinning and get the nut tight. You take the shock out of the bottom on a 2wd.

Not sure if I helped but thought I would share what info I do have!

Summed up right here. Pay special attention to step #3 as this is VERY important.

And if it's a 4wd it shouldn't have coils. Those came in 2wd's.

Easy guy..we joke around a lot on here. Don't take it personally it's just what we do.

To answer your question more thoroughly there are 3 bolts in the back, 2 on the top and one on the bottom and 2 on the front shocks, 1 on the top and bottom. Take them off and put back on with the new shocks. I don't remember the sizes of the nuts as I did mine like 2-3 years ago.

And yes, Bilstiens are great shocks for a replacement. A little pricey, but I have never heard a complaint about them.
