Sooooo....
My 98 Tahoe has been sitting about a year now, last winter i was going to drive it but the battery was dead, charged the battery and it turned over and ran for about 2 seconds then died, So its sat there since. A couple of years ago it did the same thing but i had it towed to a shop and they fixed it. They said it was something like the computer and ignition not syncing up or something like that. So in the past couple of days ive been trying to get it running so i looked online and the only thing i could come up with that matches my symptoms is the dreaded passlock. So i did the 30 minute relearn and it did nothing, tried it again, nothing, so i went through it, checked all the fuses, took off the ignition switch, took it apart cleaned it and the contacts, pulled the tumbler cleaned it, and even took off the alarm. After all that i tried the relearn process again. Nothing! Now the only thing i noticed in all this was that the security light never went off, am i missing something? Help if you can, but keep in mind i dontwork on cars anymore so my tools are minimal but if you can help steer me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated... I really miss driving her.

Yessir! It doesnt go off during relearn or anything except turning off the key. It will crank, and start, it will run for about 1-4 seconds then die, the only contributing factor was that i let the battery die on it because i hadnt drove it in a while

so security light is on all the time? does it crank, start and then stall? after how long?

I saw that a long time back you helped another guy with the bcm module and he had a lot of corrosion on it, i want to check mine but i cant really find it, the only thing ive found is a black box that is in between the steering column and the steering column supports looks near impossible to get to unless i drop the column, am i looking at the right box?

wrong box. remove the glove box and look inside there. the bcm will be in that area. however, what makes you think the issue is with that unit as opposed to the evo steering/passlock module or its related parts?

Well i finally found it i think, it was mounted inside the dash directly under the change tray. I just figured i would check everything out, especially since i keep reading that the bcm is part of the equation, and whats the evo steering?
Sidenote: my dash was so busted up that i took it out today so i can fix it while im dealing with the starting issue, surprised it came out in one piece, it was bad...

the evo section no but the system does share the same module as the passlock system. however it would not keep the stater from running just weather or not the pcm receives permission to run the injectors. read the attached document to learn more. if you think a part of the text describes your current results let us know so we can trouble shoot from there.
