I'm in the same boat. 07 Suburban, replaced everything. Pickup o ring twice with the green o ring. SO....why does the tube come with a redish o ring? Mine holds 10 to 12 lbs at hot idle 35 ish at cold. I'm driving it. My 350 had 12 ish lbs and ran fine. Pressure goes up to 40 plus quite easily when ya touch the gas. I'm gonna try one more time. I'm gonna put a red oring and new tube in it. if it stays the same then I'll drive it untill it drops. Runs great as is, no issues. As far as the bearing clearances go, why did it have great pressure before then turn crappy? BTW... I am running a mechanical oil pressure gauge from the position of the sending unit. Yes..filter removed. Melling 295HV comes with green and black oring. I'll try the red, only gonna cost a couple gaskets and effort. When I can get to it, I will post back here the difference, If any.

you have the high volume pump and it still has low pressure. huh that's interesting.

usually that's the cover.

I doubt throwing a bunch of different o rings at is will help but let us know how it goes.

there's a video somewhere of a spun cam bearing, that's about all they makes sense to me if you have a high volume pump, main and rod bearings look good and you have low pressure. if you have the pan off, spend some time looking up at the cam and see if you see a bearing moved but also 12psi hot idle is above min spec. it's something like 7psi hot at 1000psi. if you're not doing something like heavy towing or racing it. it will probably out live the truck at 12psi idle.

Different pump manufacturers use a different color of material for the same thickness o-ring. You always want the thicker of the two that come with the pump. If it's a Melling pump, then the green o-ring is the thicker (and correct) o-ring for a truck engine.

Been awhile since I’ve been on this forum. I stayed away cause it would give me anxiety seeing problems and thinking it would happen to me. Well now it has. I changed my oil 4 weeks ago. I always change it when the oil gets dirty looking and close to 50% on the monitor. I noticed pressure was looking lower. Usually then changing the oil would work. Been using penzoil and ac delco filter. Was using the oil you get at walmart for awhile before I switched. At this change I went back to Walmart oil since they didn’t have the penzoil I needed. But what I noticed in the drain pain made me worry. Found flakes after draining the filter upside down. Found flakes in the filter. After the change didn’t help with the pressure. As sitting at about 15-17 idle.

Fast forward to last week it got worse. One point where it chimed at me and told me to shut it off. Looked like it was around 7psi at hot idle. So bought a new oil pressure sensor and filter. Gm brand. Changed it which was a joy. I ended up taking the intake off, could not get my hand back there. I was able to unplug it. Which still took me about 30 min to accomplish that. Also noticed that someone’s been here before. It did not have a filter in it. So I left the new one out. Bolted everything back up. Had my teenage son help and bond over it. Started it up and was bummed to see still the same story. So didn’t drive it for a few days. Return to work Monday and now it’s chiming at every stop and cold idle the pressure never got over 15. During driving it would be at 20-25. I tried buying Lucas oil stabilizer and added half of it. Did nothing.

I ended up swapping to my old ride so I could have a vehicle to get to work. Had to shell out for a new battery for it. I made a deal for my father in law that I gave him the truck and I could still borrow it when I needed it. Things been sitting only used to Lowe’s or Menards runs. Still has oil sticker to change oil for 2020. 2000 Silverado. I stopped driving it because things were failing. Brake line busted after I gave it to him. He repaired it. Drives ok now.

He has a barn so I plan to start tearing into it tomorrow. I have a feeling since low pressure and flake finding that it’s the pump failing. Going to do the o ring as well. Going with the melling hv pump unless you guys have any other suggestions.

be curious what the flaks looked like
but if you happen to have the filter still cutting it open might help diagnosed

I am not certain how a metal flake came out of the filter by just inverting it.

The large hole in the center of the filter is the outlet, which means it is the "clean" side of the filter. Unless your filter doesn't have an Anti Drain Back valve there shouldn't be a way for the metal to get back out of the dirty side of the filter (which comes from the oil pump) unless your filter media has a big hole in it.

I’ve done since thrown it away. Very thin flakes. Similar to this photo

According to the internet for ac delco p46e it does have anti drain back. I seen a couple flakes inside the big hole when I looked in it.
