Yeah, get the biggest cooler you can fit between your radiator and your grille!! I'll try to measure mine tomorrow for you to give you an idea but the size that jdpber should work as well since it worked for his truck!! And you will see the trans temp stay much lower than with the stock trans cooler, I nearly crapped my pants when I saw how small the stocker was!! If you also end up going with the electric fans, you will for sure want the bigger cooler because the electric fans will only be on when the computer tells them to turn on, unlike the clutch fan that's always spinning and drawing in air!!

Alot of guys go for the dormans and have had great luck with them, I went with a used fan assembly out of an '05 and have been running it for 3+ years strong!!

You do indeed have the better trans for sure compared to the one in my denali, and with the 6.0 you will love a tune/CAI/Exhaust setup!! Tows our 23' toyhauler way better and it's a blast to step on it during normal driving!!

I'm not the smartest tool in the shed, but in the attached pictures. (it is really hard to see), it looks like the cooler is 10in by 5 inches or so... and not very thick at all.. so it could be a lot bigger in that space..

If i understand for electric fans i could order the dorman,
Is 620-653 or 620-654 the right ones? (or does it not matter)?

then i need the

2003 and Up GM Truck/SUV PCM Controlled* Dual Electric Fan Harness with Dual PCM Ground Triggers Pins for GM 2005 and up OE Style Fans

then my next question is, is it kind of a chicken and egg with the tune? i need a tune to turn my fan on? but i really need to get the tune after i have everything on, if i am going to go the data logging approach?

legit questions... but what is it worth if you dont want a race truck, and everyone tells you to change a bunch of parts....

your best bet would be a old/used twin-screw supercharger.... and your getting it for the TQ it will generate across the board. simple as that.. now if you dont have the 3-5000 to get that then yes, you can start with a few other mods that will help in the TQ department. You are not looking for HP here.

Shorty headers = waste of time IMO
Dual/Electric fans = waste of time in my book unless you looking to squeeze extra HP or seeking cooler AC in the summer traffic.

Again basically, you need TQ output..

start by changing to a lower gear, like 4.10s or 4.30s. Heck 4.56s is fine if you have a big tire, and tow mostly. Gears will help multiply the TQ to the axle/wheels. which is what you need while towing/loaded pulling mountains.

2nd. CAI & longtube headers will help tons in throttle sensitivity and help that engine breathe making more hp & TQ.

3rd. A RETUNE of the PCM is mandatory.

Note a CAM swap to a smaller duration cam 210/212 in that range will produce tons more TQ and mid TQ power which you need. IIRC the stock 6.0 cam is like a 196 duration. Anything much larger while shift your TQ band higher.

like "jdpbear" said get a big cooler. it will help the life of the trans tremendously! I actually run the 80e in my 1/2 ton Tahoe. I also run not 1 but 2 of the biggest size coolers you can purchase, and STILL fit them both behind the grill. You can also by-pass the trans fluid from passing through the radiator as well. (COOLER) I run a setup like this cause I have a 4000 rpm stall converter as well.

But it will NEVER hurt to keep fluids cool.

If you've done much towing and haven't ran electric fans compared to clutch fans, you are missing out!! Does a way better job of preventing overheating and if you do start to overheat, it knocks the temp down super fast compared to the clutch fans!! And as you mentioned, super ice cold A/C, even at an idle is really nice!! Fan assembly takes up half the space making serp belts easy to change out!!

good points, but I have never had a problem, and my AC is cold as bricks. I could use the extra room under there if I did a turbo setup. But honestly my truck runs cool as can be and never even stresses. I have towed my fully loaded burban 3000 miles non stop across country and I have climbed the Colorado's and Cascades this guy is asking about. I have took some pulls 100+ not a problem. I also run a 180* termo-stat with caddy water pump and neck. Again my truck is far from stock, but I never have cooling issues.

I think my truck will pull anything I can hook to it honestly, with my mods, its not a problem. But its far from stock.
