I have a Trail Bay 27DS camper that is about 30' overall length. The tag on it says it weighs 5050 lbs. without options (A/C, spare tire, full propane tanks, etc.). I live in it when I'm working so it's packed full of crap and I have 2 extra propane tanks. I have an 05 Denali XL and it pulls it with no problem. As far as handling, you barely know the trailer is there. It has plenty of power unless pulling up big hills. It will pull up the big hills, but I don't like to let it shift down to 2nd and run the rpm's up so I usually just let it slow down. If I'm not in a hurry or pulling on a windy day, I will get between 8-9 mpg, compared to about 16 mpg normally. Before I had the Denali I had an 01 Suburban. It didn't pull the camper as well, but it was alright. If you're not going to pull it very often or far, the Suburban would be fine. I think the mileage I got while pulling with that was about the same, maybe a little better.
