injector issues after engine work, tsb?

Just had my lifters and pushrods swapped out after having the #7 lifter fail on my 2015 Yukon with the 5.3L and 67k miles on it. After getting the truck back the mechanic informed me that the idle was rough and he found 2 injectors that aren't "balanced" and that there is a tsb and I should have the dealer sort it out for me. I'm getting a P2099 code for fuel system too rich and the idle bogs down to about 350 rpm when idle in gear. runs fine when on the throttle.

I'm only finding a tsb for 2016-2017 models, is my 2015 covered by something here? Also, should I replace with OEM or is there an aftermarket solution that makes more sense to use?

To me, it almost sounds like you had injector problems mixed in with lifter problems. Is the injector problem on #7 and another cylinder? Your tech that did the engine work should be able to print out the related tsb for your year truck or he was just guessing that the 2016-2017 tsb would also be related to your truck. I can guarantee you that the dealer will not admit that your 2015 is going to be related to the 2016-2017 tsb. Unless, there has been an edit to the existing 2016-2017 tsb. Start with getting a copy from the tsb your tech was referring to.

^^ THIS. Ask your tech for the TSB identifier and have him/her/it verify that it applies to yours.

Dealer said it's only 2016-17 trucks that are covered. Looks like I'm SOL. I might just run a few cans of seafoam and see if that clears it up at all. runs fine other than idle.

$2412.72 they are now quoting me. 8 new injectors...

Is there any possibility that the place that did the lifters for me damaged the injectors in some way? There were zero issues with idle or injectors prior to having the work done. The second I picked it up I could feel the issue and the CEL came on 10min down the road. The mechanic said he felt the poor idle too, but didn't think it was bad enough to indicate an issue. he was obviously wrong. I just don't see it being a coincidence that the injectors were just removed and reinstalled to do all the work that was done and now all of a sudden 2 of the 8 are bad?

The tech said he did not think it was bad enough to cause an issue and he may have made that decision based off the fact that the CEL was not on. Does not make him wrong when he gives an opinion. If he said it would NEVER be a problem, well then he would be wrong. IF the injectors were going to be bad the very next time or only time they were touched to remove for deeper work, why would that be the tech's fault. If you came in to my shop with a broken exhaust manifold stud and wanted me to fix and another one broke during disassembly, that would not be my fault. Taking something out/off for access is not always the techs fault if there is a problem. I work on vehicles on the side and I make EVERY new customer aware of what I am doing and the ramifications of what I have to do. They make a choice and they live with it. I make no money on parts and the labor is the same, so it does not benefit me one bit. Did you check the place out before having the shop do the lifters? Recommended by someone? Used them before? Just chose because close to home?
By the way, how was it determined that it was a lifter problem and not an injector problem? You said "zero" issues. How did you know that when you had to have A problem to even decide to do lifters.

Sorry I get defensive because I was in the field for 35+ years and it is always easiest to point blame at something if not completely understood by the pointer.

The loud rapping sound from the #7 lifter is what determined it was a lifter problem.

In all seriousness though, the shop that did the lifters is an LS performance specialist, they have only 5 star reviews and seem to know what they are doing. I havent confronted them at this point, I'm asking here before I go and do that. I do find it amazingly coincidental that after they put it back together 2 of the 8 injectors are now leaking down. how would TWO fail during the 3 days they had my truck taking the engine apart? Injectors were fine, engine running fine at idle, no codes prior to them working on it. then I pick the truck up after they pulled intake/heads/fuel system apart and now 2 injectors are faulty.

Wouldn't you think that once they got the engine back together and they test drove it they would have immediately said, "hey this thing isnt idling well at all, lets figure that out?"

Just handing it back to me with it stumbling that bad (it almost stalls when sitting at a light) seems like they new they messed something up and wanted to send it out the door so it wasn't there problem anymore.

Well, now you have shared more detail that would have been nice to know before. I personally would have talked to them by now and then you could have posted results here as well. So, you had a bad lifter but the engine was idling fine before work? I am not doubting you but do want clarification on this. The initial reason for the reason it went to the shop to begin with, but was idling fine? I am confused about this. Yes, I agree with you, the shop should have said something about what they experienced after the work but I was not there and am only hearing one side of the story. I ran shops for gobs of years and know that there is always at least two sides to any story. I personally want the rig to run right and you be happy but digging deeper may clear a lot up before fingers get pointed. See what happens when you give them a chance at it and before you post more here. By the way, are the injectors leaking down or are they not "balanced"? You shared what they said before but now post something different. Plus, your injectors may well be some that should be included in the tsb but if GM will not include them in the tsb, is that the shops fault? That, in and of itself, is concerning. Good luck.

The shop that did the initial work said the injectors were not balanced ("way out of spec" were his exact words), the dealer however, said they were leaking down. Sorry if I used the terms interchangeably, but i heard both from the 2 different sources.

The initial thread is linked above. I was contemplating doing a lifter swap when it was running fine, then the truck made the decision for me, the exhaust lifter for #7 failed and bent a pushrod in the process. there's a video on the thread so you can hear what it sounded like. This prompted me to have it towed in to the shop to have the lifters all replaced as well as the pushrods. I went with ls7 lifters to permanently disable DOD so that I wouldn't have to deal with lifter issues in the future. The engine was idling perfectly fine prior to the lifter failure. no lights, no idle issues, no drivability problems.

They day I picked up the truck after having the work done Iit was cold so it was idling higher and I didn't notice the issue until I got about halfway home and stopped at a light. Then the CEL came on pulling in the driveway P2099 code for bank 2 rich. I called the shop the next day and he advised me to run a can of seafoam through it and see if that did anything. I drove it for another 3 days and 150 miles and it did not make a difference. I then brought the truck back to the shop to have them evaluate and he told me that 2 injectors were out of spec and that I should bring it to the dealer because there is a tsb and they should cover the replacement for me.

Well, I bring it to my dealer and they say no, they will not cover it since the tsb does not cover 2015 models. So now I'm stuck between paying them $2400 to replace the injectors or bringing it back to the shop that did the lifters (at a discount presumably) or fixing it myself.

I just don't see how 2 injectors could fail simultaneously when the shop was just in there and had to remove and replace those during their work. They could be damaged or not installed properly causing this issue. seems too coincidental for it to not be there doing IMO but I know I can't prove that.

Hopefully this clears things up a little. I should have posted more details in the beginning
