So, I have had my '08 Tahoe since late 2009- have just started getting into the idea of customizing it so that it doesn't look like every other Tahoe on the road from the outside! Right now it just has the windows blacked out all around (5%, darkest legal tint here in TX) and I'm working on gettin 24's and chrome tipped exhaust installed in the next week or so.

Excuse my lack of expertise and general knowledge in this area but I'm on here to learn more so that I can well, make my Tahoe really badass. I love my LTZ and want to keep it around for a while, so I'm trying to get some ideas on how to make it really stand out without being super flashy. After all it's my kids' daily ride as well :)

Love everybody's posts and especially all the pics I've seen so far!

Thanks for the welcome, guys! Y'all both have some nice rides. R. Beezy, my husband is like "24's, ok sounds nice..." haha. He doesn't care one way or the other really.

Hey iwaslwr, where the heck in Austin do I even begin to get my truck worked on (rims, tires, exhaust?) I've been calling custom shops and rim/tire shops and want to make sure I make a good choice...not super concerned about cost, just quality and a solid install. I haven't found many online reviews so any personal experience would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Hey iwaslwr, where the heck in Austin do I even begin to get my truck worked on (rims, tires, exhaust?)...

The only mods of mine that I didn't do myself were the tune, window tint and exhaust.

For the ECM/TCM tune I went with Blackbear Performance. They are a Supporting Vendor on this site and Justin knows his stuff!! I still am amazed at the night and day difference in performance and drivability from his in-person tuning session!! I think he is scheduled to be in Dallas soon, but that meet might already be fully booked.

For the exhaust I used the muffler shop at Burnet Rd. & Anderson Lane. I'd suggest calling around and asking if the muffler shop will let you be involved with each step of the install... that way if you don't agree with something you can speak up before they start cutting/welding. Most of them offer a warranty so they can't really do a bad job, but it is nice when you are able to be involved throughout the process to make adjustments and supervise from close by instead being in a waiting room on the other side of the building.

My wheel and tire package was ordered from California, but you may be able to find what you are looking for locally if that is your preference. Ordering from out of state will save you taxes on the purchase and shipping typically isn't as high as you'd think. Mine were shipped ready to be installed as soon as they arrived: mounted/balanced/sensors installed/inflated to correct PSI. My strategy was sending e-mails to (or calling) many of or every dealer of the preferred wheel brand and obtain quotes on the entire package shipped to my zip code.

My lowering kit was ordered from out of state... but this site now has a vendor TimsSuspensionOnline.com that I have heard nothing but good things about in aspects of pricing as well as customer service.

I purchased alot of my other mods from eBay: HID kits, LED bulbs, Escalade tail lights, billet grille.

I hope this info helps out. :Handshake:

About the wheels again... Have you found a set that you like yet?? If so, which are they?

Right now I'm looking at a set of 8 spoke KMC Slides, with a Nitto 305/35/24 tire.

Thoughts?

EDIT: A buddy of mine is getting rid of his Empire 24's as well- I don't know anything about the brand though but they are in great shape and might be a good start while I do some mods, and then upgrade at the end of the year with what I REALLY want which will set me back a good amount of $$... Not sure yet though.
