So I installed Air lift 1000 bags on my z71 to reduce squat when towing our boat.
First off let me say that it took WAY longer than the Hour/Hour and Half I was anticipating and was Very frustrating. So far I'm happy though.
Anyway, I was finishing up as some friends from out of town were showing up at my house so I was hurrying to get everything back together, and forgot to go back and hand tighten all of the lugs after I got it on the ground. A contributing factor was that I'd forgotten I'd unplugged my air compressor so my impact wrench wasn't putting out any torque and it was the first time I'd really used it so I didn't notice the difference.
So, next morning I'm heading to work (with about a 7 mile jaunt on the interstate) and I start to feel a bit of vibration so I mute the radio and slow down then I start hearing some popping, at which point I remembered my missed step so I pull over (gingerly) and begin to tighten the lug nuts and got three full turns out of some of them! So after work I go straight to the shop I used to work at and make sure they're torqued, and find out I tore up one of the studs which really isn't too bad considering the alternative.
Moral of the story? Even when you're in a hurry double check all of your work.

On the few occasions I have had others do work, they have left my lug nuts loose on more than one occasion.
I when I bought my Denali in Dec, on the way home the wheel speed sensor started acting up, after dicking around with it for days, and after they paid the dealership to diagnose, but NOT replace, did the car lots "mechanic" replace the whole hub assembly. When I got home, I checked and the lug nuts were not tight on the wheel he removed to do the hub.
In the end, at least you did pay some one to screw it up for you, and you or the truck didn't get hurt.

True, and the worst part is I used to put tires on for a living. I just got sidetracked and hurried.

I have been there too.. And once you realize what you have done its like "OH ****!!!" lol

I made a rule for myself when hitching up trailers.. Weather I am hitching it up to move it 3 feet of 300 miles - Hitch it up completely!!!! I had a situation once where I never put safety chains on, lights on, or a safety pin in b/c I was just moving the trailer, but ended up taking the boat out later and forgot I never finished hitching it up..
