I wouldnt. It would look terrible and if it did make more power, it wouldnt be enought to tell.

If you're really worried about it get a plastic intake tube. It may help a little but like Bill said, not enough to notice, imo.

If you consider the amount of time the air spends in the tube and the actual heat transfer from the walls of the tube to the air it likely doesn't even account for 1 degree of temp rise... The biggest issue is where the air comes from (starting temp) and flow most CAIs work to solve both of those issues.

heres the scoop, That I have seen with my Specter while driving and idle.
For reference, I have the steel plate thats under the stock airbox removed and NO mods to the specter as of yet.

Driving at speeds over 45mph for aprox 5 mins your IAT's will be =/- 4-7* over ambient.
Idle for more than 3 mins your IAT's begin to Rapidly climb to well over 80* over ambient in the summer.
During cold weather like I am seing now, IAT's will climb up to 111* over 54* ambient at idle.

This weekend I will be ceramic coating the tube inside and out with high temp 1500* header paint and dbl wrapping it with 2" wide header wrap.
As well as Sealing the top of the box with rubber trim and insulating both sides of it with bedliner spray or roll on, haven't decided yet.

I pay very close attention to my IAT's and will give you a update by the end of next weekend.

Regaurdless of what ppl tell you, IT Does and Will drop our IAT's both driving and idle.
The specter is nice and cheap and for few $ more can and will be made into a very good CAI.

I see no point in wrapping. This was discussed for a while on a Cobalt SS forum I'm a member of. Eventually, an engineer came on from Powell Racecraft in Canada (company that made the Time Attack Cobalt SS) and flat out said it's a waste to wrap intake tubes, especially when air is pulled from between the fender and firewall. He even explained why large differences in readings between ambient temps and IAT1 [Cobalt SS has IAT sensors pre (IAT1) and post (IAT2) the supercharger] could be occurring, and was often proven right when people researched their problems.
