I disagree some. On my Nissan Cima I am running twin turbo and all my tubing for my inter cooler and intake are heat treated with a paint that repels heat and keeps the tubing from getting to hot it is basically a ceramic paint that is black. Now while a large SUV probably is not pulling 460+ HP I think it will help if you do live in a hotter climate. I have my car in Hawaii and I find it helps keep the engine a little cooler. It certainly won't hurt you. I could care less what user my hood looks like on an SUV it's not a show car by any stretch it's supposed to work and be reliable for me.

Been busy, Have tube coated inside and out (very thick coating) and the outside of the box insulated with aluminum backed insulation 1/4" thick.
will be wrapping the tube and gasketing the top this weekend if I get some time..

So far IAT's have been very promising, will report back when tube is wrapped and have some time to get temp averages.

I would think it wont have much change at 70 mph on the highway steady. But stop and go traffic i would think it could be as hi as 5-10 degree difference. How acurate can you really measure this, the sensor is in the mas isnt it? And that is at the beginning of the filtered air delivery. Then the air goes down the tube, gets alittle warmer, goes threw our heated! Throttle body, and then into the intske that is sitting on top of the motor. Seams like to get a real test you would have to measure the temp change at the intake of the head. Every thing else is cool but your guessing? I might 1/2 ridged foam the inside of the steel air box though.

Has anyone actually had an issue with the throttle body freezing up if you bypass it?
