I installed a LOC (line out converter) on my factory Denali/Bose system today until I do a full system install. I tapped into the radio's outputs on the back of the radio itself to get a full audio signal (even though I was only hooking up a sub). After hooking up up the sub I noticed that the factory head unit would not reduce the bass signal going to the aftermarket amp. This means that all audio adjustments are done at the amp itself and not within the radio. I also noticed that if you want the full audio signal it is much easier to tap into it in the center console as opposed to behind the radio, there is just more room and it is easier to access. I then opted to tap into the signal out of the amp for the factory sub it then gives you some control of how much bass your new sub puts out when you don't have any additional controls.

Yeah, that's been pretty much the standard for factory audio systems that use external amplifiers for some time now. Other manufacturer's do it as well, not just GM. It sucks. It forces you to either rip out everything and in many cases lose many convenience features or deal with the horrid sound quality of the amplifier's output and LOC's. I chose to rip everything out and start fresh in my 05 Suburban LT. It had the Bose touch nav and I hated it.

All volume control comes after the amp on the denali. It's the y91 premium system. The radio just tells the amp how hight to go. The amp them uses a crossover to determine the volume. Some days your music will sound louder than others.
