Now I have never replaced one on a Tahoe, matter of fact I have not even taken the door panel off yet. But typically the handle comes as an assembly there are some linkages that attach with some plastic retainers, and the handle assembly attaches with rivets to the metal door structure itself.

It might be completely different than what I have worked on in the past, but everything I have looked at up to this point from 1987-2006,, Firebirds, Rainier, Rendezvous were all roughly that way.

This means you have to drill out the rivets, and either put bolts with a locking nut, or pop some rivets in there to replace them.

Ok, here is the deal. I was wrong.. .The door handles are attached to the interior panel not to the door as I thought.

It is pretty easy, but a bit of a PITA. To change the door handle, you have to

1) pop off the lock release (on the lock itself), and pull up.
2) pop off the cover under the door pull and remove the 2 10mm bolts
3) pop off the cover under the door handle and remove the 1 10mm bolt
4) pop off the triangle in the front of the door, it can stay on the panel if you want... it makes it easier to remove it for when you reinstall the door panel itself.
5) pop off the switch trim piece and remove the plug wires
6) pull out on the door panel. start at the bottom rear and work your way forward and up. Do not use the panel puller as a leaver, instead, use it to get behind the panel and pull (inward toward the interior)
7) Lift UP on the panel
8) Once the panel is free, you have to get someone to hold the panel, and take a needle nose pliers to squeeze the black plastic clip and move it backwards, and then pull the ball out of the lever itself.
9) remove the door handle from the interior panel with a 7mm nut driver.

Pretty easy
- Tools -
- small bladed screwdriver
- 10mm nut driver or socket
- 7mm nut driver or socket
- plastic panel puller
- needle nose pliers.

I'm going to order a pair today... mine are flaking off, and they have sharp edges... Seems to me that this is a hazard as my 10 year old son cut his fingers on the back seat handle. To rectify the situation till I get a set, I used file to remove off the top edge where it was sharp, but this is crap IMHO. Make them from metal and chrome plate them, the Chrome plated Chinese plastic garbage... is garbage.

I ordered 2 pair... hopefully they are the same front and rear.. they kind of look like it and Amazon did not specify.

$12.80 for a pair + $5 for shipping

I figure about $9.00 each is not bad at all... even if I have to resell one set

I picked up TWO pair on Amazon, paid around $30 for BOTH pair. So not bad for a $30 bill

Pretty easy, took pictures, I am going to make a how-to if it has not been done.

Need:
easy-pry plastic panel puller
small bladed screwdriver
10mm nutdriver
7mm nutdriver and about 20 min per door.
