If I'm not mistaken, my 2001 Yuke (5.3L gas) came with iridium tipped plugs. NGK is now making another exotic metal plug tip, Ruthenium this time, that's supposed to be more durable and actually costs a few cents less than the Iridium plugs.
If the stock OEM plugs are already good for 100K, what's the advantage? At that rate the resistor will degrade or the ceramic insulator will fail before the plugs need replaced, right? Am I missing something? I've almost exclusively used the OEM plugs in all my cars, I figure they know best since they designed the thing.
I ask because next weekend is tune up time for Macho Grande, and I'm collecting what I need - MAF cleaner, new air filter, wires, plugs, stuff to clean the throttle body, Seafoam, etc. If you are using or have used these plugs, let me benefit from your experience!
Thanks all!
