Is anyone running red, and blue flashing lights?

I was just as surprised to get the vehicle with all the extras! But since the time of the original post until now the lights have been removed and the partition has also been removed for comfort. The spot light on the A pillar remains, the center console, the rear most part of the partition (I think it looks cool, looks like a dog cage) I've also added my business logo to the each side and the rear window. So no more mistaken identity! Thanks for all the replies and those awesome picture look forward to reading all the great info on this forum!

Too bad there were no cop shows with these cars in them, in 20 years you could make a tribute car, like an Adam-12 Belvedere or Car 54!

I think that was the best one but those Mustangs of the FHP must've been a blast to drive too. My buddy hated being outrun by perps in the Dodge Diplomats! He would have loved the Chargers and Tahoes.

Definitely different in each state how this stuff is handled. For some reason in North Carolina, the last I recall you could have them but could not turn them on unless you are parked. That is IIRC. Way too much to question though, I think you did the right thing by removing them. I don't understand how its legal to have them anywhere, TBH.

This is a screen grab of my Tahoe running in the World Famous Woodward Dream Cruise Emergency Vehicle show in 2021 so I did not have to wait 20 years to show mine? Having the lights and the markings is a very fine line but so long as you play by the rules there is no reason it can't be done. Trick is spending over 20 years learning the rules to stay out of trouble! Since 1997 I have always had a restored police vehicle that I have taken to shows and parades and yet was able to daily drive them because the markings are all magnetic and the lights are hard wired to the siren control unit which is removed after each show so only the yellow and clear lights still work for daily driving. There is a boat load of lights that I remove after each show.

I recently purchased a 2012 Tahoe PPV, and its equipped with most of the police dept. Red, Blue and white flashing lights, passenger partition, grill guard, and spot light. I was told by the dealer I was able to legally have them installed but of course not to impersonate a LEO. Also they were sold to me "deactivated" meaning all the fuses were pulled. I replaced the fuses and they all work including the siren. But I have read the Texas laws and say they are definitely illegal to have. So question I have is "is anyone else in Texas or somewhere else running red and blues? or at least have them installed? Have you had any issues with LE, pulling you over? I think they are awesome and will only use them to show off at home never in public. Any advise is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Drove a fully lit Crown Vic for two winters while storing my Tahoe away from the salt in Ontario with no issues. Of course never used them in public but no run ins with the boys in blue, other than having a traffic officer wave me through a closed intersection with a nod and a smile. … lol.
Behind the grill the lenses were red and blue , the rest were clear LEDs that when turned on are red and blue
I even crossed the border into USA ( New York ) driving it with no issue. Customs guy didn’t even ask about it entering USA nor on the other side when returning to Canada. If I still owned the car I’d put black tape over the ones behind the grille to reduce any risk.
On a side note , turned out to be a great car , super reliable and a lot of fun when driving in traffic watching people toss cell phones down and driving with one eye on their rear view mirror.

We used to be able to bid on surplus government of Canada vehicles. Tahoes, Harleys, you name it. Some wack job got himself an ex police cruiser, kitted it out with lights and decals, and parked it in his yard to “Deter Thieves”. He then proceeded to go on a killing spree in Nova Scotia killing 22 and wounding 3, while impersonating an officer. Up here, you can’t so much as own a Police decal. Lights and sirens are big no go here now. Very sad.

Yes it is very much illegal for you to have the equipment. The best thing you can do is pull the fuses back out and sale the equipment asap. In most state you don't have to have the equipment running to be charged with impersonation of a law enforcement officer. I don't think you want to lose your freedom and your vehicle..as a dealer that installs this type of equipment I would have never sold you this stuff or told you it was ok to have even if it was deactivated. They just wanted to make a sell at your expense.
