Is changing the 1999 4x4 switch difficult?

No one really answered if there is an aftermarket switch, or a better switch to buy than a used one on ebay... I'm going to replace mine soon and would like to get the best one I can.

Ideas?

if the old one lasted this long, whats to think that a new one wouldnt last long? I ordered a brand new GM one from ebay for $70.

Please post your results with the new switch. Count me in the group with the faulty led's that only stay on for a couple of minutes.:Plugged:

Mine does the thing where once a week I get halfway home and I feel like my RPM's are higher than normal; I look down and it magically told my T-Case to go into Auto-Trac mode...

Since there are a bunch of you who have faulty switches, why don't you explore how to open them up and replace the LED's inside for me when you get your new ones in :)

Too easy to replace the whole dern thing. But if it is just the light that doesn't come on, you have to pick your battles. My 2wd, 4wd, and auto 4wd all work fine- the lights are just a little posessed. That's really not an issue to me, nor worth the cost of the switch, and the 15 minutes it takes to replace.

I'm slow but may be learning. Here's my question......

X2 mine does this as well.
Is the switch what does or causes this little quirky problem?
Does replacing the switch alone then solve it ?

I'm with the others where the 4x4 engages properly, it's just the lights have a mind of their own.

However, due to some other issues with starter, etc... i decided to clean and tighten all positive connections between battery, starter, and fuse box, and for some reason, my 4x4 switch lights have been accurate ever since. Not sure if its coincidence, and/or luck for a while, but worth a try...
