My recently purchased 1997 Tahoe has Dex Cool in it. I have heard some bad things about dex cool and I wanted to know if I should/could switch it over to the green stuff? What do you all think? Thank-you for any help.

i would switch i run the green stuff after doing a full flush.....im not even sure if you can still buy dex-cool....that stuff sucks anyway my inlaws had a blazer with that shit in it and it burned out 4 heater cores before they realized it was the coolant that caused it. they flushed it all out and run the green stuff and have never had a problem since...

x2, flush it out really good. I did mine twice to be sure I got all the old crud out with a radiator flush from Prestone. Then I used a bottle of Royal Purple radiator additive to ensure proper flow all the time. Think about radiator additives like Gas-X. The Gas-X doesn't lower the volume of air, it reduces it's ability to cling to surfaces, thus passing air out easily.

I have no idea where that just came from....but it makes sense to me?

i use prestones gm dex-cool. i think most people have problems because they go by mileage only and not by the amount of years its been in the car. 4 years or 50,000 no matter whats in there.

side note: i have heard some people say dex-cool is harder on cars.

supposedly when they brought out the dex, there was something in it that f-ed stuff up inside your engine. if your flushed it out since 2000 your supposedly fine.

Prestone Dex-Cool here as well. it got all new after the radiator split... (plastic crap)
