Is my front diff toast?

@OR VietVet That's the plan for now, I just use this Tahoe to commute to work and I've heard rumors that if you run 4WD without the CV the Hub will fall apart so they say to just run the tip of the CV axle that goes through the hub

Rumors, likely true in some cases. I'm not sure how you tell but maybe after reading the short thread below one of these regulars could advise.

@Fless Yes I've participated in some of those debates and from my personal experience, the 4WD hub is a solid tube of metal from the inside to the outside but while I don't think it's needed I would rather be safe than sorry lol.

By the way I got one of my CV axles apart and it seems to use a new design where you cannot access the snap ring but I held the axle shaft and had the spindle part end hanging down and I just smacked the back of the part that goes into the hub with a small sledge hammer and I was able to release the end from the axle so I am now ready for my 2wd conversion.

@OR VietVet My goal is to just run the CV shafts through the hubs as 2WD and not use the front diff
Kryptonite hubs are 2wd/4wd hubs can be ran with or without cv shafts just for future reference when you go to change your wheel bearing

When I snapped my cv axle I cut it off at the stub with a cutoff wheel and ran that for a couple months until I could get new wheel bearings I still ain’t got cv axles yet that was a year or two ago
