Is this normal?

'05 Yukon 200k miles. Still chasing a leak. Found oil pan rear ds bolt to be finger tight! Re torqued all to 18ft lbs. Not the end one's though. 8.5lbs on them. But one was loose! Is this normal?
If the leak doesn't stop I'll be faced with the daunting task of pulling the pan I guess. It's a 4x4.
Recently had a rebuilt trans installed. They overfilled it by 2 qts and the drain pan bolt was loose and leaking too! I can't trust anyone, but the oil pan was factory!

Not normal! Someone else been messing around under your rig? I was going to do the oil pan gasket but I can't get it high enough without a lift to mess with it. Too tight under there and too much to remove.

The ONLY people that have been under there were the transmission shop. And like I pointed out, they're incompetent. The little plastic shield that covers the bottom of the bell housing was loose too! Coincidentally, that's right where the loose pan bolt was. Maybe some rookie trainee just loosening things?
I've seen a few YouTube videos where guys have pulled the pan using Jack Stands and a Floor Jack. Still looks like a pain. I'm old, I have the skills, but the body just doesn't cooperate anymore!

Yea, even though I have the know how and the tools and can set mine up on 4 tall jack stands, I don't want to tackle it because I am almost 68 and getting up and down from the ground is a PITA! I have my 05 Z71 at the shop today, two guys own the shop that used to work for me, and they are doing the transmission cooling lines and all the fluids changeover because of ground and no place to get rid of fluids. I just did the upside stuff like all new wires and plugs and air filter and did both belts and tensioners and idler. I also did the front and rear brakes with new rotors, pads and hardware and new park brake shoes but they are going to do park brake adjustment. I have oil pan seepage but no drips so that is coming later.

Yeah same here. 67 broke my back, bad neck fusing from arthritis and bad knees. Takes me forever to get up from the floor. Nice to have people you can depend on to do the job right. Those parking brakes need a large caliper like tool to get them adjusted right.

I used four 6X6's one under each wheel plus 3 floor jacks plus wheel chocks on all four corners. I used some old carpet to lay on. The Truck wasn't going anywhere that is how it has to be before I will work under it.

Exactly the way I was taught by my HS Auto Shop teacher. Try as much as you can to knock it off the stands or blocks. If you can't, you're safe to go under!

I don't try to move it but a floor jack with weight on it will not roll on a garage floor.

I'll never trust a floor jack by itself. Hydraulic cylinder with no lock? No thanks.

I have but realized it was a risk. Safety First !!
