Hey guys over the last 2 years I've been riding around on my L31 rebuild, which I posted about in this section... But I think the time has come to jump over to the LS.

I acquired an L76 block for a decent price this weekend and am planning an LS swap into my daily 1999 2Dr Tahoe.

I don't want anything really radical on this build as it's not seeing anything more than commuter miles. My emphasis is on low end grunt with a power band from 500 to 5500rpm tops. I would like to see 450rwtq if that's at all realistic with 370 ci. Not all that concerned with top end HP.

So to kick off the question fest I’m wondering about some things…

Heads: Trying to stay budget minded here. I’m a serious DIY’er and current plans are to find a set of 243/799 heads and do light polish/cleanup. I wouldn't mind experimenting on some 317 heads but that might be a little more work than I want to put into the project.

Cam: Again, emphasis on low end torque. Thinking 218-220 duration at most with 112 LSA. Not sure what value for lift.

Shortblock: This engine was from a 2015 Silverado and looks like it had been run pretty strongly. The walls are scored to the point where I can feel small imperfections, some that catch my fingernail. Bearings were all perfect and if I do have to bore it, I’m thinking .020 over with Speed Pro flat top slugs. The crank was good shape and will be polished and that’s all.

That’s about where I’m at now, any thoughts or suggestions would be great.
Thanks!
