if its the slash series it puts out 500W @ 1.5 - 4 ohm. i agree with eagle, there has to be a gain somewhere or bass boost up too high. maybe even the eq settings. i've used jl amps for almost all my installations and never had an issue with one overheating like you described. yeah they get warm but never overheated...

Well the last shop did me a favor and put a fan in the area where the amp is located(under the driver side passenger seat). It has been ok for the past few days, no shutting down. Im gonna run it for a while tomorrow and see how it feels.

something is not right with the wiring or the amp is starving for power. I'm running two amps under my rear seat which gets even less air flow and no heat issues. my 1001/1 is actually cool to the touch most of the time regardless of how much or how loud I play it. Now I did have a problem with it running hot initially and it had to be sent back to JL.. Turns out there was a defective part.. some kind of semiconductor if I remember correctly. no problems since. You shouldn't have to put fans on these amps.

I have the same amp, and had to run a bigger power wire to it cuz it was doing the same thing, did it today actually but my amp is mounted on the exterior of the box heres a pic.IMG_2809.jpgIMG_2810.jpg
